Whereas the Wisconsin Geocaching Association spent a number of years and multiple contacts with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources working with the DNR to allow geocaches on DNR lands and that contact eventually led to a coherent and agreeable policy by the WDNR related to geocaching on DNR lands.
Whereas that policy has proved to be successful from the standpoint of Wisconsin geocachers and is published by the WDNR at http://www.dnr.state.wi.us/org/land/parks/other/geocache.html
Whereas since the publication of that policy in August of 2006, contact between the WGA and the WDNR has become sparse and infrequent.
Whereas Article II of the WGA bylaws cites one of the purposes of the WGA is to: "Work as closely as possible with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR), and other property management officials to protect the rights of individuals to geocache in the state of Wisconsin."
Whereas the Utah Association of Geocachers and the Minnesota Geocaching Association have in recent years worked with the DNR land managers in their states to develop successful state park geocaches, and these programs have enjoyed the enthusiastic support of DNR officials in Utah and Minnesota and been enjoyed by geocachers in those states.
Be it resolved that the Board of Directors initiate a face to face contact with the the appropriate WDNR officials within 3 months. The purpose of requesting the meeting would be to:
1.) Maintain our positive relationship with the WDNR.
2.) Revisit the WDNRs existing notification policy that is in place, and make sure this policy remains agreeable to the WDNR.
3.) Listen to any concerns that the WDNR may have as it relates to geocaches in state lands.
4.) Discuss the successful programs of state sponsored geocaches in Utah and Minnesota and explore the possibility of the WDNR and the WGA working together to develop a similiar program. Votes/Actions
