Webmaster:

Please make the emails fo the board members a flat image (not text). The web spiders are grabbing them as they are and spamming the board.

Thanks,

Putting this in the .htaccess file will take care of a bunch of those email harvesting robots. I use it on all my domains.

I use phpwpoison

Go to my website and click on the question mark at the bottom of the page. It takes you to email.php which, after a deliberate delay to slow down the mail harvesters, generates a fairly realistic looking page with fake emails to harvest.

Thanks for the .htaccess file. That's one thing I didn't have.

OK, I've changed all the email addresses on the About Us page to images. Note that the CacheCows already had them encoded in a numeric format that probably would have tripped up some (but not all) email harvesters.

I did not bother to set any spambot "traps" on the WGA site... I'll let other people come up with creative ways to slow the harvesters down. Restricting which "User Agents" can access the site seems worthless, as the harvesters can just use the same string reported by IE or Mozilla or a random string.

And since I'm also getting spam at my @wi-geocaching.com address which is no longer listed on the page, I'm guessing the addresses were harvested some time ago and are only now being sold and spammed.

You're not alone there... I've noticed a major jump in my spam email as well over the last two or three days... Mostly about stocks and meds...

What fun!!!
