GSAK-GC #'s

I don't want smart names. I want to load my GPS by witg GC #'s? Cuz that's how the load into my Ipod and that's what I use when I log them into GC.com. And somehow I disabled smart names so now I get waypoint 2 waypoint 3. HELP!!!

What happens when you go to tools, advanced, and check the GCXXXX code "special" sort box?

OK, perhaps you should take off the cheesehead hat, and think clearly for a moment. Cool

I notice GSAK does not allow a deactivate smart names option. Hmmm.... they must know something we do not ??? Like, it's smart to use smart names?

Why would you want to use GC numbers?

Well, the reason is, when I find a cache it goes into calander. I open the calander, it lists the caches in order via GC#. So I punch in the GC#. After I punch in that log, I punch in the GC # for the next cache.

That's how have always done it. I use to use Easy GPS to D/L. Then I started useing cachemagnet, which uses the GC# which puts the caches in alphabetacal order, so I can zip through my I-pod wne looking for information. Only bad thing is it onmly load's 500 wayponis cuz it loads it in 2 files. GC# and Cache name.

I'm new to GSAK and still learning how to use it and all it's bells and whistles.

I have that checkes, and as far as I can tell. Nothing.

OK, next question ......... Hmmm? How do I phrase this ......

How caches do you do in a day? Can't remember which ones without an aide?
Got CRS?

On a short day (say under 40 caches) I will usually log onto GC and open up the maps. Then I just cruise along the roads we travelled, and log the caches which were found. Fairly easy, and nice to travel the roads one more time. also, get to see if anything was missed.

Are you referring to the name of the caches on your GPS unit? If so, then I would look at the export screen (GPS>Send Waypoint to GPS) there is a check box there that says use defaults. Make sure its checked. I am pretty sure it will use the GC name as a default. If you need to run it unchecked, then make sure you "%gcid" in the waypoint name box

I never said they were not useful, they maybe, just not me.

See Marc, up NORT, caches are not always on ROADS. And how do you remember each cache? How do you log DNF caches? or don't you log them?

EG. Gandy Dancer trail series. There like 20 or so. ALL start the same. SO the last leter in the smartname ends is the only diffrent letter. So how do you know which on it is.
I uss Map 60SCx. So it shows me the GC# and then the cache name.

OH and I"M NOT into numbers. Just over 400 finds since 7/06. Just over 100 hids since 7/06.

So, I guess I just use 2 programs to play the way I want to play the game.

I'll even give you a guided tour of the LAND OF CHEEZEHEAD if you ever get the courage to cache where there are no roads. Ask Zuma or K-Spud aboutZoma's Golden Cache:The GrandDaddy of Caches
No Roads to them.

A general comment about GSAK you might have missed from another discussioin.

GSAK allows you to substitute names. For example,

Wisconsin Spirit Quest can be replaced by WSQ, or actually, nothing.
Helps to shorten the name, and make the smart names smarter.

And that's fine. I just want the good ol fashion GC Names cuz I aint that smart enuf to use smart names.

Cachemate for my PDA's does list all caches as GCXXXX if desired, but that will not help in your GPS.

What SammyClaws said except use %code in build waypoint name using tags. I haven't tried it, but the help says it will work.

Yep, I goofed up, the %gcid is another cache id. Thanks for the correction Miata
