Hope all have a good time. IF the snow conditions are anything like they are here, you'll be working for the find. Just take it nice and easy. |

Congrats to the group that went! You will have earned that one. It was not going to be for me.
Huge thanks to seth, brian and bob for the push!

We have survived. It was farther and harder to get to you than I thought it would be. The snow is DEEP! It took us about an hour and a half to reach the cache and that was with taking turns breaking trail. Great day, great hike, great group of folks to spend time with. You can check out the logs from today as they come in. My "found it" is already happily logged.

Sounds like you all worked for that smiley! What great pictures! Beautiful with the snow. Glad it wasn't a micro at GZ. It's cache trips like this that you remember for a long time. Nice to know you erased the DNF and won't have to go back.
Oh, and that photo with the caption "Thickets and more thickets" needs to go on the WGA home page, and GC should also pick it up for its rotation. Shows just what you were up against. |

It sounds like everyone had an awesome time. We did that one for New Years Eve 2006 and it was lovely. A real memory maker. Glad so many of you made it close to our little corner of the world. Sorry we could not get over to the meeting place and say hi.

We were already on the road when you posted that you folks would be home yesterday. But, we didn't have time anyway- had to get back as one of the kids had a party to go to. It was a fantastic day- temps were great, and the snow on the trees was really special. |

If you want to play, you have to pay. I'm really paying for it today. From home to home was 448.89 miles that took 12 hours and 56 minutes. What some won't do for a smiley face.
Too bad it didn't work out for you RSplash. Maybe another time. |

From all the logs and pictures it appears everyone had a great time and an awesome adventure. These are definitely the type of caching trips you'll never forget. Someone should write up a story about their adventure and post it on the Online Geocacher Magazine to share with cachers everywehre.
http://onlinegeocacher.com/ I have enjoyed reading the logs. Makes we wish I had been there. |

I went to nominate Eagle Source for Cache of the Month this morning and discovered that somebody beat me to it. But, perhaps I had the pleasure of being the first to vote for it?
Last year Marsh to the Philippine Islands was nominated after our trip out there but lost. I can't tell you how hard it is for me to see these types of caches not get the recognition they deserve simply because they don't generate geocaching traffic and they're too far away from the epicenter of voters. I generally don't even participate in COTM because of this. In fact, in writing my comment to go with my vote I felt a little like a hundred year old man tucking a letter into a time capsule- very little chance I'd ever see my words again. So, here is the comment that I included with my vote. Perhaps we can both pleasantly be surprised and see these words again.
My comments for Eagle Source for cache of the month:
| Quote: |
I like a cache you have to think about. A cache that, in the middle of a hectic day, you have just a moment to ponder about it sitting out there in the forest all by itself with nobody else around. Perhaps a chickadee is flitting past it with it’s “chick-a-dee-dee-dee” as it darts from branch to branch. Or perhaps at this moment a red fox on top of the crusty snow- ear cocked listening for a snow-caved mouse- has just given it a curious glance.
Eagle Source is out there. It’s not hidden from muggles because there ARE no muggles. It’s a bold brave box. Just sitting there in its wooden chest smugness daring you to make an attempt. There’s no awkward pile of branches to disguise, no decoys, no tiny tucked into the crook of an empty knot micro, no camo cloth- no camo anything. It’s not clever; there are no tricks, and no Internet mumbo jumbo sad little facts to gather like a box of toothpicks spilled on a crusty wooden wide-cracked floor. It is what it is: a box in a swamp in the middle of a Northern Wisconsin forest. You want to log this one? Well, you’d better have some kind of a plan and double tie those laces on your boots my friend. Because although there may be more than one-way to get to this one- they’re all the hard way and I like that. A lot.

Well written and so true. Mostly the wolves, bears and a few bear hunters go out there. We usually do not participate in COTM either for those same reasons.

So eloquently written, Tim. Like you, we think many of the really great caches get overlooked in the COTM and don't vote if we haven't found them ourselves (which we hardly ever vote anymore), but we'd encourage all who have hunted this one to vote this one time. I'd love to see one like this take the honors. |
