I'll sort through the pile and see if I can find you a nice tall sturdy straight one. You'll have to come up with your own name for it though. Laughing

There's a cache we did, Felsenmeer Ridge, I think, where bobcat mentions in his log having used a stick which he left at the trailhead, stating "His name is Wilson."

So...does this mean my walking stick should be named after a president? Is there some bit of folklore behind stick naming I've missed?

Looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow. We figure we'll gather up a few caches on our way there.

Can't say that there is folklore or a presidential rule (maybe there is one starting though.) My story... CJ and I were heading into the marsh and I didn't have poles. In the past, I've always just picked one up along the trail, but seeing we were heading into a marsh I didn't think I'd find one, so I decided to grab a cedar stick I had left over from some trimming. It proved so useful and made such a good conversation piece, I decided to save it from becoming firewood and keep it for future use. For some reason I felt my "big stick" needed a name, and since it helped me "walk softly" when I carried it, the name Roosevelt just fit (besides, calling it Teddy just seemed silly). Today, now that Roosevelt has become a part of my geocaching experience, I've decided to give him his own TB#.

But that's just me...and I'm a little quirky, in case no one has noticed.

Sloughfoot has new stick that we might as well put in to service tomorrow. It has been decorating a corner of our cottage for several years now but Sloughfoot is getting ready to retire and expects to pick up the pace of caches so a good stick can help the old guy down the trail. It's name will be "Rutherford" named after the man that carved it. There are several "Rutherford's" already out there, Marble Guy and Wrongway Junebug and Thunderslide are using them. Well, here's hoping that everyone enjoys stompin' through the swamp on Saturday, plus the cocoa and mini-marshmallows. Keep your feet dry, and don't lose any of your hiking sticks in any muck! Safe caching, all!

IT'S NOT FAIR!!!!!! We have a winter-related homeowner's nightmare that must be addressed, so we can't come out and play.

What a bummer. We really needed this weekend away. Oh well, you all have fun!

Looks very frosty out there! If the sun comes out, we'll be walking in diamond-studded cattails! The craphas is settling and should firm up for a nice walk. Linda is coming later with the marshmallows! Last minute cachers are most welcome! Very Happy

"There and Back Again- A Geocachers Tale".

We made it! A nice group to make the march out to GZ. This is my 3rd time out, and by far the easiest. The heavy snow had pushed the cattails down, and they were bent toward the island. Made for good trail breaking by zoesbrother. Once we knew the ice was safe,I stayed back with sloughfoot to let the first timers lead the way.
Good friends, good marshmallows, good day!
Thanks to those that showed up for this 90 minute outing! Very Happy
