He he, Pat knew this would happen!
I'm not understanding how I'm supposed to get the cartridge for a WhereIGo cache onto our new unit. When I download the cartridge, I'm told it can't open it. Sent me to some con job microsoft site to clean up my registry, then wanted me to buy some stupid program for after telling me it's "free."
So I tried just saving it, then putting it into a file on my c drive, which the groundspeak forums say should automatically put it on the unit. Nope.
Also.....when my unit is plugged in, all I get is that screen with the computer tower on it, no screens that actually let me do anything.
I've been at this for over two hours. I am about to give it all up and revert to plain old letterboxes. No technology needed there!
What am I missing, and why is this kind of stuff hard for me alone and everyone else can figure it out? It's really starting to get to me. |

Hi
For my Colorado 300, this is how I do it.
I save the cartridge to my C drive
I plug in my Colorado in to my computer
I go in to Explore and find the file you saved (cartridge)
I copy that file and then I find my Colorado under my computer (it will come up as a drive, my is L drive)
My comes up to Garmin Colorado (L) on that tab you should have garmin and Wherigo. [Garmin Colorado(L)/Wherigo.]
I save mine in the Wherigo folder
And that is it
Where I have Colorado, it should be your Oregon
This is about the same way you put GPX files on your unit. You just go: Garmin Colorado(L)/Garmin?GPX
Hope this helps |

I must be saving it the wrong way, cause I need to go between windows and then I can't drag and drop. I'll have to spend a bit more time with it tonight after work.
I'm sure it's like any of this stuff....once learned, it's a snap. Thanks for the help! |

I hate to tell you this, but I suspect you have a malware infection. These "free" programs to clean up registries, speed up your computer, and even remove malware, which end up requiring payment, are what is referred to as "Blackmailware". If you pay the company, they will send you a program which temporarily disables the malware they installed, rather than actually cleaning it up. These programs tend to be very ugly, hard to remove, and do very obnoxious things (like rerouting Google results so that only their "programs" come up in the search). Because the programmers are doing this to make money, you will find that they are much more "professional" than the typical virus written by a high school kid. One that I had erased the malware remover I had installed and rerouted the link for the http://www.malwarebytes.org/ website. (I had to get the software on another machine and then use a thumb drive to move the file. Afterwards I threw the thumbdrive away.) Try Malwarebytes and see if it picks up anything and can remove it. If you can't remove it, you might have to format your drive. |

Gary,
That's really helpful. For some reason, I don't seem to be getting the screen or anything resembling it for step 4. I should not need to open the file, correct? That's where I was getting something about not being able to open this file and check for the program stuff. I'll try a different browser or something to see if that helps.
I sure hope Dave is wrong, but given his line of work....he probably isn't. I've taken some steps already toward that end, thanks Dave for the heads up. |

Yes there is no reason to open the file. I used Firefox, other browsers handle downloads differently so there might not be a dialog box (I just tried saving by using Internet Explorer and it worked with a dialog box also)...sometimes you just need to know where your downloads end up on the computer....you could always do a search for the name of the file if you can't seem to figure out where / if it downloaded....I'm no tech guy though so take all my advise with a grain of salt... |

chrome defaults to the user/documents/downloads folder without a dialog box, but it shows the downloaded file at the bottom of the screen. if you click on the drop down right next to the file you can select the option "show in folder" |

Success! I guess I put it on there twice. Maybe at this point, that's good, in case I accidentally remove it, LOL. Thank you!
Now to see if we can actually play the darn game. We've followed a big group the other two times we've done one.
Thanks again.
Will, I was working with Chrome and it always frustrates me that I can't back up to my c drive or desktop or whatever I want. That's helpful info, too, as I generally do use Chrome for most things. |
