I like the idea of different metals on the coins, too.

I would hope the theme would be Wisconsin, geocaching, and the WGA, if that's who is organizing this...if it IS getting organized.
I'm sure it was discussed recently. I just hope it wasn't tabled until the new Board members are elected. Coasting can cause delays! Confused

I also like the idea of a Wisconsin-based theme for the design submissions. I just don't think we should incorporate the 10th anniversary theme. Leave that to the others.

My 2 cents... I have never created a geocoin so it really is just 2 cents.

I agree, stick to the WI only plan, for the 2010/2011 coin what ever year this is going to be for. I like marc's idea for a additional project, be interesting to do the whole US that way.

That idea has come up before, but they couldn't fit the tracking number on the Rhode Island coin...

Requests for quotes have been sent out and we are finishing up that stage of the process. After we choose a vendor and get costs figured out we can set a price. We also need to put our stamp of approval on the factory's rendition of the artwork. After that we should be able to start the pre-sale process.

I don't want to put any time frame on the process in case something doesn't go as smoothly as anticipated. But, things are starting to move pretty quickly. Keep watching for announcements.

Latest word is that the geocoin committee is gathering quotes from the various mints to compare cost. We currently have three quotes and are looking to make a decision soon. Please don't ask what "soon" is Smile

I would need to review the committee forum to determine what the date we had in mind to have these available ,unless someone else remembers.

edit:
Ha, yeah, TBC knows better than I. He has his hand on the pulse on this one.

As with the Pathtags, there was much to consider, even more-so for the geocoin. We have several quotes and hope to start the minting process soon. More to come as soon as we have more info.

My apologies on the delays. Like others have pointed out, it has taken the committee some time to gather mint quotes and consider many options to prepare for producing this years coin. We thank everyone for their patience on this.

Earlier today, a motion was submitted to the WGA BOD to approve a Pre-sale of the 2010 WGA Geocoin. This resolution now has a majority BOD approval.

We will need some time to get the WGA Store setup to handle the ordering process now that we have the Board approval for a Pre-sale of the coin.

For those that are not heavily involved with Geocoins, a Pre-sale means you buy the coin now and wait until it is minted to receive it. By doing a pre-sale we can actually better predict final demand for the coin and order the proper quantity to be minted.

Some preview information on the Pre-sale per the board motion:

Sale Prices:
$10 Pre-sale
$12 Later (subject to change)

Shipping/Handling:
1-2 coins: $2.50
3-4 coins: $3.50
5-6 coins: $4.50
6-12 coins: $5.50
12+ coins: $10

Some info on the Coin:
1.75” x 3.5mm coins
2D front and back
Imitation hard translucent enamel
Custom Icon
Trackable on Geocaching.com

Pre-sale will be open for approximately 3 weeks and announced on the WGA forums as well as the Groundspeak coin forums.

WGA Inidividual Pathtags will be sold via the WGA store at the same time as the Geocoin Pre-sale. See separate motion.

.

Priority Mail Small Flat Rate Box $4.95 8-5/8" x 5-3/8" x 1-5/8"
The boxes are free and they hold quite a few coins, far more than 12.
Delivery Confirmation is max 0.80

Why the high price for 12+?

Just curious if this is open to everyone or just WGA members and if they are being sold to everyone is there going to be a separate member-only edition of the coin. Looking forward to getting a couple coins. Razz

Will there be a picture of the sample posted with the pre-order?? I would love to see the finished product, the chosen design was very nice!

I believe all members and "friends" (WGA site users that are non-members) can order from the WGA store on this site. The intent of the sale is it's open to the public.

There are no current plans to mint a separate edition of the coin from the primary edition.
