I'm a little confused on how to get a pocket query file (and if someone can suggest good software to open them with would be great as well!)

When I search a zip code and pull up the list of caches, is there a way to do a query for more than just that page? Or do I have to do a separate query for each page? When I check caches on the first page and try to check some on the 2nd page before requesting a file it un-checks the ones from the first page.

The way you’re doing it (checking the check boxes on a screen full of caches), is NOT how you create a Pocket Query. What you doing is just “Downloading Waypoints” … much more limiting, as you’ve found.

Here are the basic steps …

#1 You need to be a paying (Premium) member. You only get the ability to create Pocket Queries if you pay. It looks like you are, so that gets you past that step.

#2 When you are logged in, over on the left click on “Your Profile”.

#3 Then over on the right, under the “Premium Member” section, about 2/3 down the page, click on “Build Pocket Queries”.

# 4 Welcome to the world of Pocket Queries .. here you can make them, change them, and delete them. You pick what you want (typically an easy way is to center the query on the zip code you want to be in) and you will be emailed your Pocket Query file … in the format of a .GPX file.

From there it depends on what kind of a GPS receiver you have. If it’s a more current model with Geocaching features (like the Oregon series for example), its as simple as dragging the .GPX file to the Garmin/GPX directory. Otherwise a good piece of software that most use is called GSAK (Geocaching Swiss Army Knife) … a good starting point would be this web page: http://www.geocaching.com/waypoints/default.aspx
