went ou tto the Geojeep and see that someone had broke in the jeep they stole Roy (aka nuvi 205w) and the Oregon 400t and my wallet with check book and cards and all that good stuff. Which sucks cause Roy was like a family member and the 400t is only like 5 months old.. Called the cops and filed a report and then went to the DMV which no one likes to do. Then I called the insurace company to file a claim. They called me back with what they were going to do.. Heres what they said, were gonig to get a new Roy 205w and they can't get the 400t so they were going to get me a 450t then I proceded to ask them about the 550 and they said it was the same price so I asked if we could get that and they said yes which is awesome I didn't use the topo map so I figured I had nothing to loose. I think we made out better.. But still feel violated for having my stuff stolen..I also think they took a TB that was also in the truck but will update that later..

Only a geocacher would focus on this vs their wallet and checkbook being taken.

That's a sucky situation. Glad some good has come out of it with the upgrades. I don't think it was necessarily a cacher that did it. Most people know that GPS units are not cheap. And they are very portable. ie: easy to grab in a hurry. Hope you have some luck catching the person(s).

It wasn't that it was a geocacher that ripped him off,
it was that he was more concerned about the GPS than the wallet or checkbook.

I feel the same way, take my money, my keys, my dog, but leave my GPS alone!!

It's the "untraceables" that they want. Checkbook, credit cards, etc. are all traceable and even small time crooks don't want anything to do with them.

We had a situation a couple of years ago where someone swiped my wife's wallet. The post office called a day later saying they had it. All the cash was gone, but nothing else was touched. I was surprised considering pay at the pump and most other small credit card purchases don't require a signature anymore. The police told us that even though they don't require a signature there are cameras all over the place. They normally just take the cash and other non-traceable items. In most cases they actually return everything else via the nearest mailbox and just dump it in. The postmaster said they get a 5-10 of these a week in Oshkosh alone.

Itr really sucks cause I have only a three day work week this week and then I have four days off and I wanna do some caching so I think I might have to resort to using the P.O.S triton or I guess I could learn to cache with my phone. Then I would have another space to check off in next years bingo.. Laughing Laughing

After watching CSI and other crime shows where they can track the criminals via the gps in their cell phones, that gps units would be trackable!???
It's probably some disgruntled cacher upset at the evil caches you have planned Very Happy

After reading this, I decided to lock my GPS's so that even if they get stolen, they'd be useless to the thieves.

If you have the serial numbers try calling any local "pawn" shops (I know WI doesn't officially have real pawn shops). They're required to take drivers license info. from anyone they buy from. My husband is in law enforcement and has recovered several things in Madison area stores.

Sandman - Who do you have auto insurance with? When my car was broken into and my GPS was stolen, my insurance company said they would not cover it because it was not a factory installed unit. I'm thinkin' I got the shaft.
