The LCG is the "Lonely Cache Game". It brings the plight of lonely caches (ones that haven't been found in a long time, usually six months at least, but the time fluctuates) to the attention of other cachers, who may or may not choose to check on these caches to see if they are still there and in good shape. The "game" part gets the more competitive ones in our group here to challenge themselves to see how many they can find or recheck in a month's time, points being awarded based on difficulty and terrain, among other things. And you can still go after lonely caches even if you aren't angling for the top spot in a given month.

It's a way to keep the quality of the caches in Wisconsin high by making sure the ones that need help either get it or are put out of their misery (archived). Having a cache on the LCG list doesn't necessarily mean it is a cache in need of help, because there are all sorts of reasons that certain caches go a long time without being found, but it usually get those lonely caches some visitors!

Check out the Main Menu to the left of these forums and click on Lonely Cache Game to get all the details.

It's great fun having some fun competition amongst those that participate. I've participated since I first became a member. It turns out that some of these caches are really great caches (based on my personal experience), but require some "investment". The investment might be a puzzle solve, a long hike, a difficult hide, etc. Some are just recently repaired caches that were disabled for a long period of time.

An important thing to note is that multiple people can get the points for the same exact "lonely". This is way different than a FTF which only one person generally gets. If 10 people find a lonely cache, all 10 people can claim the points for it.

The link does explain the details, but feel free to ask any questions. It's really a great way to experience some unique caches. And as noted before, it works well to "weed out the bad stuff".

I thought that was rule 12.B.8.C sec 12.y, but I might be mistaken. Laughing
