Question does anyone know where I can get a GPX file for trails in Wisconsin like Scuppernong Trails down in Eagle or Other trails. I found a gpx file for a trail down by Bong on backpacker.com but they do not have anything else. So I am looking for a trail gpx file for trails that I can load into my gps so I can make sure I am staying on the trail. Any help would be great. I hopefully explained myself ok lol

You may want to try trailville.com... Not sure that is what you're looking for though...

This is very helpful thanks but I am looking for something that I can download to my GPSr and also put it into mapsource. So if anyone knows of a way or a site that allows me to do that please let me know.

If you are referring to the Ice Age Trail which runs through there you cannot get an electronic copy to download; the IAT folks keep that private...

...I guess I should rephrase that, you cannot get it from the IAT folks...some other organization I suppose could map it...

Generally, this sort of thing is not available. There are tools available to convert scanned maps to GPX, but the process is time consuming and not easy. If you don't want to take that route, the easiest way is to walk the trails and then save the track log as a GPX. (You want to lose weight, right?)

http://www.traillink.com has gpx files available for purchase. I've never purchased one from them, but have used their online maps extensively.

ha deejay yes i want to loose weight but i also like to know where i am going and whats up ahead. so ha lol no i just found it cool when backpacker mag had a gpx file and stuff and where it had waypoints and stuff and when you hit waypoint it would give direction like at this fork go straight or follow trail left or whatever so I didnt know if there were more out there or not but it looks like I am going to have to make my own and stuff now to figure out how with my gps lol

I think this is interesting. I wonder if there is any interest in the WGA membership undertaking a "basic" mapping project for trails were there are known geocaches.

I know I have a track log of the Mascoutin Trail, but I've tried to convert this to a GPX file to share with others. I'm certainly curious and this would be a great asset to cachers outside their "normal" area.

This topic come up from time to time and does not seem to draw a lot of volunteers.

Junkie that is a cool idea i know we all hike trails all the time we can build a data base or something where people can download whatever trail they want. i can email you the GPX file that i have of bong hike we did it is really cool like i said it was cool it was like starting point is here then follow blue loop to waypoint 1 then info on waypoint one said at this 3 way intersection take trail straight to waypoint 2 at waypoint 2 it read at this intersection it is the blue green and yellow loop follow yellow loop to left to this point ETC,ETC. and what made it even cooler is i was able to take it and load it into mapsource then made a query of caches and overlaid it on the mapsource file and it showed me where all the caches fell into the hike. Let me know i can send the GPX file to anyone interested.

The Wild Goose Trail has a Bookmark List.

If each trail had a current Bookmark List, the cacher could Google any starting point they want, and choose the stopping point, as well. Making the Lists would take some time.

Another WGA subcommittee project?

I wonder if we could do something like instead of having certain people do certain areas how about we just do a GPX bank where people can submit the ones they have and that way people can see and use the ones and then if they are going to an area that is not in the bank then they can make a trail GPX file and add it when they come back and that way we just have a bank of files where anyone can access them. the only problem i can see is legal issues if there are any.
