Done correctly, the GPX files could be loaded into a variety of online mapping programs and a paper printout could be made (similar to what I posted for Wet Maze but there are many options). I know I'd find this very useful at times especially when in unfamiliar areas.

Basically it's the file format compatible with GC.com for caches, but it's actually more generic. It supports predefined routes (go to point A, them B, then C, etc.) as well as track logs (i.e. the breadcrumbs).

When I generated the Wet Maze track log map I extracted the data from my GPS via MapSource. Then saved it as a GPX file and loaded it into the mapping program. It sounds complicated but it's actually quite easy to do.

I've been playing with the file from ScrappyScout and this looks like it offers exactly what we're looking for. I have a couple of partial files for the Mascoutin Valley Trail that I should be able to combine together. I'll play with this a bit a post something for people to look at. I'll also try to include some "cheat sheets" for some of options for use out there.
