Says the cacher who recently placed a coin in a cache that's been found only three times in over a year! Shocked wink
But you did take it on quite a journey before that.

only put it there 'cause I know that if it stays too long, the gracious cache owners will stop by for a pick-up.

that, and I am still trying to sell some granny squares hints but no takers.

We have 23 geocoins out there so far since last summer. We have another 15-20 coins that we haven't activated yet (including 3 2010 WGA coins), but eventually will put all of them in circulation. We don't keep them when we find them, and when activating one we make certain to set the "collectibles preference" to no - do not keep. We like the feel, look, weight, and color of geocoins, and when we send them out we hope they will keep going for a long long time. Same thing with travel bugs, we've probably moved about 100 or so and love to do so - it greatly adds to the game (for us) and it our FAVORITE swag to find in a cache. Love them. Just bought 8 more TB tags last week. I myself would be disappointed with a photocopy of a coin. It's not the same. We've never found a paper copy; we're not sure what we'd do if we did. We might just ignore it. Here's a thought that could at least lessen the apprehension of placing a geocoin in a cache - put the real coins in the premium members caches only, and the paper ones in "public" caches. Of course not everyone would do that, but it's a thought. Just my photocopied two cents Cool

when i do drop coins and TBs off in caches, I try to look at the cache history to see if things tend to be safe or walk away. Just because you find a container large enough for the trackable, it doesn't mean it is a good place to put it. While an ammo box a mile down a deer trail also might be safe, trackables should be movers too, so it is hard to find a happy medium.

Isn't that the truth! I had to mark 5 TBs/GCs missing from my Cache Across America cache today. Nice to know cachers still read the cache page - there are several notes not to put in TBs/GCs in this cache cause they regularily go MISSING!

I'm not the biggest fan of paper coins, but I do understand why it's being done. Geocoins are expensive. I'd hate to lose a coin out in the wild, especially if I don't have a spare to replace it with.
