Hello everyone! I am a fairly new geocacher yet, only found 20 geocaches so far. Mainly I hunt around Antigo and sometimes I make runs up to northern Forest county and southern Florence county (I grew up in that area).

I happened to stumble upon geocaching after hearing a news report on it so I downloaded the geocaching app onto my iPhone. Then I found my way here so I have a whole new site to explore. I am also hoping to setup my first geocache this week so that will be fun as well. I am also willing to adopt caches around Antigo if anyone has some they can't take care of anymore.

One quick question - the membership profile here asks for a link to my geocaching.com profile but I can't find the address for my profile anywhere, can someone point in the right direction?

Welcome to geocaching and the WGA! Nice to hear your story. Looking forward to seeing what you put out for your first hide. That can be just as fun as looking for caches.

As for that link you mentioned, I don't think it has worked since the web site upgrade here a few months ago. Someone correct me if I am wrong. It's been quite a busy time for the webmaster, but he's doing a great job keeping all of us on the WGA site happy. Very Happy

Welcome! I have lots of family from Antigo, yet I have never cached there. Another reason to head up north! As for the link, can't help you with computer questions, but quite a few folks here are very knowledgeable. Check in a lot for questions about technology, the "rules" of the sport, or just for social connection. Have fun!

I found the URL I needed to for the profile so that is taken care of. I found an area to setup a geocache so hopefully I will hear back from the DNR tomorrow on whether or not geocaches are allowed there. Once I get the go ahead to set it up I will run out there and hide it, then post it on geocaching.com.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!

Welcome to the site and the sport / game / activity / pasttime. It's great fun and this site is frequented by some really great people (newbies, novices, average joe cachers, power cachers, and legends). Feel free to drop in anytime for help / advice.

As for the DNR thing - there are a couple of threads on the site related to this, but basically as long as follow the process here you should be fine. Please note the form you send the DNR is a notification form and not a permission form. They can certainly reject the submission, but you won't always get an "OK" from them.

Ok well then I will go out and find the spot where I want to hide the caches and send the form in with the coordinates. I suppose I can always go back out and take the cache down if the DNR rejects it.

I noticed on the form that it says that caches are not allowed in state natural areas and to be safe I checked the list for Langlade count and my spots are not listed there so tomorrow I go and setup the geocaches.

Welceome to the adventure. We are up in Eagle River so hope to see you up in our neck of the woods some day. We enjoy caching in the Antigo area. Maybe we will meet on the trail some day soon.

I grew up in a small town off of Hwy 139 which is not too far from Eagle River if you take 70 east and then take 139 south to a tiny little town called Newald. I am slowly introducing my parents to the game and want to take them up the Eagle River area on a caching run, do you know of any geocaches by interesting natural features like waterfalls and stuff that you could recommend?

You did the Antigo Lake Park cache right? That was an evil, evil cache! It took me and my wife three tries before we finally found it, good hide on that one.

Just type in the 54521 zip code and take a look. There are many great caches in our area. If you have specific questions about some give us a shout and we will let you know.
