Although I have never attempted hiking more than a few miles, I have taken a great interest in the trail around Lake Geneva. The entire length is somewhere around 22 miles, all along the lakefront, and through many very magnificent properties. Have any of you ever done this? I am thinking of trying it in the spring, (at least 1/2 of the distance) & hope to find people to lead, join, or follow.

Any interested souls?

I'm interested. Why wait for spring? Image

We have done the complete walk, just not at one time. In fact there is a printed piece that describes some of the high points and it is broken down into shorter walks. We have always gone with some other people, having a second car to spot at the end is nice, like canoeing so you don’t have to go back up stream. It is a very interesting walk, some of the homes are unbelievable, especially when you consider that many are only summer homes, or at least were when they were built. What I have always thought is needed is a guide to the homes that has coordinates so you could use a GPSR and would know for sure you had found the structure that the guide book was talking about. We try to go in late fall very few people around but you do have to walk around some piers that have been taken out of the water.

I have done the complete hike. Took me about 7.5 hours. Did the hike counter-clockwise, starting from Fontana, where I lived at the time. The roughest part was after passing Lake Geneva (city) and heading into Williams Bay. We were walking into the wind, and by the time we hit the bay, we had major chapped lips. Beautiful walk...

Now on my list is the shore path around lake Mendota in Madison... 40 miles vs. Lake Geneva's 26. Image

Well, our Water's Edge virtual will give you a 2-mile hike around the beautiful Lake Geneva shoreline. I know Cathunter has already done our geocache recently, maybe that's what prompts his intuition to go further! [ Image]

Not bad cachecows - a 2.9+ or lets just say 3.0 average over 22 miles is a pretty hard clip to maintain for a casual walk. Take into account all the trail changes and obstacles in the home areas and you must have been quite exhausted.
