Any place list caches that need to be adopted?

Is there somewhere that has a listing that tells about caches that need to be adopted or taking over? I like to get some more under my belt love this hobby.I plan on getting more put out myself but love to help the cause to if someone can't do it no more or needs help thank you

There is no listing of caches that owners would like to have adopted. Occasionally an announcement comes up on the boards here.

Unfortunately, the usual path of progression is that if a cache needs to be adopted, it is because the owner has lost interest in the game as well as the cache, so they don't go out of their way to keep the cache going (or even to pick up the geo-litter). Not always, but usually.

...or a prolific cache creator who can't help creating new ones even though the burden grows on his existing ones which he finds hard to let go of. If you live in the Fox Valley, I'd be glad to offer up a few Wink

I haven't dug into it to see how much it would take, but it might be worth discussing adding adoptions to the Cache Rescue module.

Seems kind of unnecessary. Most posts requesting adoption are quickly snapped up.

seem that most adoptions that are owner initiated are snapped up since there is a good reason that the CO cannot continue maintaining.
It is the perpetual caches out there that are worth saving and are only in play due to the good graces of other cachers doing maintenance. These are the ones that it takes a little prodding to get the owner to respond and make the request. I just adopted two area caches where one of them, consistantly had reports of water in the cache. After several of these reports, I contacted the owner via email to see if I could assist if they could not. I also offered my willingness to adopt the cache. Received back an email saying that age and a double knee replacement had ended their geocaching, he was very interested in how I could adopt their remaining active caches. Many cachers may not know about adopting out caches so I always include the www.geocaching.com/adopt link.

Yes, but that is only by cachers who are willing to post in the forums which is a very small percent.

I have mixed opinions on the whole "adoption" thing. I know GC.com provides the facility to adopt caches which I think has a place, but the "rules" also state that when you place it you're supposed to be able to maintain it. Obvious there are multiple sides to this and I've seen other discussions in the forums both for / against the whole adoption vs. archive scenario.

Unless the cache is exceptional in some way (like a virt for example), I'd rather see the caches archived rather than adopted in MOST cases....that said I have adopted out a few of mine that I did not want to take care of. To do it over I would have just archived them.
