Is the geocaching app worth the $10? I've read good and bad reviews. I'd like to know what the feeling on here is about it? Or if there are better apps.

You using Android? Take a look at C:Geo for Android. I use it sometimes when I don't have my GPS with me.

Also take a look at GDAK. You can put your entire GSAK Database in there and use it for offline geocaching (C:GEO requires internet access, which is not always possible if you don't have a signal).

Both apps are free.

Questions, let me know.

For Android, there is also a relatively new entry, Neongeo, that uses the Groundspeak API, and costs $4.26. Haven't used it, but am interested in how it compares with the others. Long-term, it may have an advantage over c:geo, as Groundspeak decided to partner with them, and seem to have snubbed c:geo. Just my take.

Bottom line, though - haven't used the $10 app, but use c:geo, like Todd300, and it works sufficiently well, that we're not looking to make a switch.

I like the groundspeak app and use it pretty much daily. However, I didn't know about c:geo before I paid the $10 and maybe wouldn't have gotten it in the first place had I known about the nice free app.

I use it and like it. If it was not a Christmas gift would I have gotten it? I think so. $10 is not that much and it is for as long as you use Android phones.
Thanks

I've been very happy with cgeo on my phone. I've actually gone to using it pretty much all the time now and letting my better half use the "real" gps. I wouldn't recommend using it all the time since the battery life isn't the greatest but it works well for p&g's and such.

geocaching app on iPhone is worth the money now, the first rev or two was questionable.

Thanks everyone that responded. I dowloaded the C:Geo program and am going to try it as soon as it warms up. I sure I'll end up downloading the other two apps mentioned to try them to but hey why not start with the free one first. Thanks again everyone.

For those who care about such things, technically, C:GEO violates the geocaching.com terms of use. Every so often the discussion of whether it should be banned pops up. At one time, mention of C:GEO was even censored and some threads apparently deleted. Thankfully, that heavy-handed enforcement is no longer taking place, and there appear to be no plans to prevent C:GEO from accessing the site.

That said, the general discussion on the site seems to show that C:GEO has some useful features not available in the other apps. I've found it easy to use.
