Stupid new nuvi 1450!!!!!

We bought this thing to enjoy the benefit of the lifetime maps feature. It would be great if we could actually get the stupid thing to stay ON once a point of interest is chosen for a "goto." I used the POI loader to add the chosen caches to the device, like I've done for years with the old one. They appear in the "extras" as "custom points of interest." So I choose one for navigation and....the nuvi turns itself off! I suspect this is a matter of somehow telling the device to put them on a different folder on the device, but we paid our money for someone with programming skills to make this easy for us to manage. It works if I choose an address or specific point of interest, like DQ, but shuts off with the custom ones, aka "geocaches."

I am soooo tired of spending money on stupid technology that is supposed to work "out of the box," then spending hours searching for solutions or on the phone with someone who puts me on hold for hours at a time. The old one, though it was out of date, at least worked like it's supposed to. These are the moments I really do not like this hobby, call it stupid and decide birding works just fine (which it actually does). At least with birds, I know to expect that they might not be where I think they'll be, and don't walk away frustrated. Being a hermit has lots of appeal at the moment!

Any suggestions would be helpful. I'd be happy to use a road map, actually, but those aren't always the answer, either. Thanks.

We load our 1450 straight from GSAK and have not had any problems. Of course, if you're not into GSAK, then this isn't much help. We've never tried the POI loader, so we can't offer any solutions for your issue.

I just tried doing that and it seems to be just fine. I'm now wondering just why the POI loader is even necessary! Thanks.

Captain, which macro are you using to load to the nuvi. we just purchased a 1350 and once and a while the same thing happens

Actually, it's not a separate macro. Pull down the "GPS" menu at the top, then click "setup". Choose Garmin for the brand and select the model you have from the choices. Then, just connect the nuvi with a USB cable and turn it on. Once it goes into "mass storage" mode (I think that's what it's called), you can pull down the GPS menu and select "send waypoints". This will send all the waypoints in the current database (you can filter them any way you want before sending them). There is also a "setup" choice on the "send waypoints" menu. The cache waypoints should be saved in the "favorites" folder on the nuvi.

I did just notice that the 1350 model isn't listed in my version of GSAK (We still have version 7). However, there is a "Nuvi (generic)" choice which, hopefully, would work.

OK-I did try sending some waypoints with it set to "Nuvi (generic)" and it worked. Ours is a 1450T.

Nuvi (generic) should work with any model. On most of them, the caches end up as "Favorites".
