Special qualilfications

Nominees,

While enthusiasm alone will go a long way toward being a sucessful board member, your work experience and life skills are just as important.

What is the one, single most important qualification, experience or life skill that will differentiate you from other nominees?

I believe I have said this before but Critical thinking is my answer. Gathering the data from both sides of an issue, trying to identify the position that each side holds, looking at the plausibility of any solutions that are presented and formulating solid resolutions. While opinions tend to hold little weight, sorting through the data will get you to the root of the issue. Only then can a decision be made.

If that's not enough, I have 4 kids and I am still sane. I must be doing something right Smile

The most important qualification that I have to offer is problem solving. I have also gained through the strength of visions and the ability to perhaps make a difference. when needed as a leader or a follower keeping in mind the goal which has been set .

I think that empathy may be the strong suit. I have dealt with many people in many different life situations, and have acted as counselor, therapist, needs anylizer, and problem solver. I haven't always enjoyed those roles, but what is necessary doesn't need to be fun. And I've found out that you don't need to like someone to learn from them.

As geocaching grows and changes, the leadership will need to adapt, too. It isn't easy to change, but empathizing with the situations that arise will be challenging, as well as rewarding.

I would have to say that my strongest skill/ability is being able to listen. Many times communication (or lack their of) is the result of one or both parties not listening to what the other is saying. If you aren't listening, you aren't communicating effectively.

People who meet me for the first time probably think I'm quiet and shy, but the truth is I try to take the time to listen first before I state my opinion. So if I'm elected to the board don't be surprised if at first I'm a bit on the quiet side, it only means that I'm listening, and pondering.

I would say that I am personable. Whether some one likes me or hates me, they will still talk to me.

I would have to say that I am extremely organized and detail-oriented. My husband jokes about the trips we take as I am meticulous in detailing everything, and I mean EVERYTHING. I am a Type A person, I just can't help it!

I think one of my most important qualification is that I am an Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America and I have served on several different boards throughout my Boy Scout career, not only on a Troop level but through the council level as well. I also served with the Order of the Arrow on the council level. Since I have been on all those boards I have helped get camping trips organized and on the council level I helped get events and programs started and through to the next level. I have also helped get other Scouts started on their Eagle Scout projects. With me serving on all the different Boards I am able to work well with others and listen to the members of the council and bring their points and concerns to the front and come up with solutions.

Scout
