So today I was trying to find some LCG caches this morning, one of them was a success! One, I realized was not supposed to be hunted during school hours so I didn't go for it, and one I have a question about. So I was looking for Pato con Grafas de Sol GC1DPA8, whic is a series. I struck out on one of the caches needed to get the coordinates so I couldn't go for the final. Do I still submit a report and get a point? I mean, I know it isn't much to get a DNF but I just want to know if I'm following the rules here.

That's a gray area. Personally I would not consider it a DNF because you did not look for the final. It's not a "did not find" as much as it is a "did not attempt."

Again personally, I did not submit reports for caches where I did not reach ground zero and conduct a search. However, I have seen players log DNF points in the LCG for caches they did not attempt because it was too far to walk, etc.

That's what I was thinking, it just kind of stinks. The walking thing was not the issue, though. I wasn't trying to be a wimp! There's just only so much you can do with only half the coordinates.

Not sure what you have for coords, but one ray of light is the fact there are an awful lot of logs to be mined on that cache, some that might be of use.

1) It's possible that you can still narrow it down to a few high-probability locations with the information available. Look at it as a D5. Twisted Evil

2) Additionally, the CO still appears to be active, so you might approach them, explain your situation and findings, and get a nudge in some form.

3) As a fall-back in the face of no response from the CO, (crack goes the opening can of worms) you could contact a prior finder for a nudge.

Depends on how accessible this cache is to your home-base, and how bad you want it. Smile

Just keep in mind that the LCG rules state that:
If it is a multi, you must confirm the condition of all stages.

If a necessary stage is missing or you can't find it, a DNF seems appropriate to me. But... I'm not the LCG admin... He has the final say.

Sorry - misunderstood this was a multi....thought it was a series with a Mystery final. Hmmmmm. ..... Didn't read the description, but with it clearly marked as a Mystery Cache, guess it's not a multi, even if is describes itself as such?

So for Groundspeak, if you find the final and sign the log you get a smiley, for purposes of the LCG, you may not. Ooops.........Threadstealer............. sorry 'bout that. Oh My!

Blue question mark? Anything goes. Wink

Do I loose any points for giving the wrong answer?

(Apologies to beccaday for stealing this thread one more time?????)

No, TBC, you get bonus points for causing a review of the past and of the rules!

Regarding the need to confirm the condition of all stages, it looks like that only applies to Revisits (called 'confirmations' in the rules) hope I don't lose any points for this:
_______________________________________
from the rules:

5. How to score points! There are five primary ways to score points for a lonely cache.

. . .

b. You find a cache that you have found before and confirm its location and condition in a note on the cache page. If it is a multi, you must confirm the condition of all stages. See rule clarification d in section 12
Score: Terrain + 2 points (+ 1 point if a multi) . . .

I just had to take a look and see what kind of cache we were talking about. Here's my understanding of the situation.

1) There are 2 traditionals and a puzzle final. ALl 3 caches say it's a 3 stage multi, but that seems a bit misworded to me (my opinion only)
2) In each of the 2 traditionals is a partial set of coords for the final.
3) You found one of the traditionals and 1/2 the coords for the final which you didn't attempt because you only have partial coords.

In this case it's more like a DNA than a DNF. To me a DNF means you actually went someplace and looked for a cache but couldn't find it. But that's only how I play the game. wink

Yea, I didn't submit a report. That's ok, it would only have been a point or two, can't remember exactly. Anyway, it's all just a game! Smile
