other cache site options

do you guys ever use cache websites other then geocaching.com to go make finds?

I've looked at Terracaching years ago (is that the one that requires sponsorship?) but did nothing else with it. Opencaching was signed up for and even did 1 cache but didn't care for it.

I try one recommended by Garmin but I could not figure it out.

Garmin's site is a fail. It's too bad cuz they really had potential.

Munzee is lots of fun. Mostly in areas that couldn't hold a container. Been to some nice parks that had no place for hides. This is growing fast. Tried Terracaching and both opencaching sites but not much interesting going on.

I use Atlasquest to look at the listings for them, they compile listings from other Letterbox sites, so most times letterboxes are listed on more than one site.

I tried adding a couple of caches tonight to opencaching.com Very limited in comparison to gc.com when doing anything advanced. The only HTML tag I could get to work was the hyperlink. For traditionals it might work OK, but for the couple of puzzles I tried to import it failed miserably.

We uploaded a bunch of our caches onto opencaching.com Only because if the site does get more active, we don't want "other" caches on top or near ours. There doesn't seem to be much consideration (ie they don't check) to see if there are all-ready placed caches in the vicinity that are not listed on the opencaching site. They do make the comment that if there is another acche in the area, just place it a bit away to not confuse the two or something to that sort. Rolling Eyes

I've seen enough caches/letterboxes on top or near each other already - We just want to avoid 'caches' from one site "on top" of caches from another site.

I agree with CodeJunkie, it is restrictive. We uploaded a couple of multis, but there is no place I could find, to put in the additional waypoints that is only visible to me and the reviewers. So there is no checks into stages of multis interfering with other caches. I can't imagine what horrors it must be to upload a puzzle!

We tried Terracaching many years ago. You needed to be sponsored by someone and then be "active" or you got booted out. Well it wasn't going to work; at the time there were only 3 or 4 in the state and not near us. We got out of that fast. I have no idea how it works today.

Looked into letterboxing, but just not into creating stamps to enjoy it like it's meant to be. If I want to sign a log, I'll stick to GC.com.

Have not tried opencaching.us or any other caching service. I just don't need to create more accounts.

I guess if it gets to be too big an issue with caches on top of caches, we just go back to benchmarking. There seems to be far less confusion doing that. Laughing

Competition would be healthy for the game, but so far, no one has come close to successfully competing with GC.COM. They continue to improve on a regular basis, while other listing services stagnate.

Hm, will have to have to invesitgate that one..... Lynn never mentioned anything about it being there or where it is....so this friendly, courteous, staffer couldn't help anyone looking for it. Embarassed
