One thing you may not know, is that geocaching events in general are not supposed to be based around the act of caching itself (yeah, I know - like going to a golf conference and playing checkers). The cache page in the past has been scrutinized by Groundspeak for "focusing' on geocaching even when we have so many other activities on the agenda for the weekend. That is another reason we want to keep the focus off of the," how many did you get" aspect. It is really not fair either to those who are physically challenged and can't get their card filled to offer a prize for those that do - just my opinion. The Chamber already gives you a whole bag of goodies and a free day of fun - plus tons and tons of door prizes. I think that is plenty, but that is just my opinion. |

I know, the gun locks. Groan. I am the guilty party on that - well sort of. I got them from the Sherriff's Department and from my understanding (I don't own a gun or hunt) they are valued at between 5-10 dollars. Next year, we will perhaps have less or just give them out to people who want them. I think they are great, but maybe not for the drawing.
P.S. Find all those Angry Birds eggs yet LB7? |

No but I did copy the link....
...And I think I was one of about 10 people i attendance who did not get a gun lock...but as my wife will not let me play with guns I guess that's not such a bad thing. |

I was really hoping for a gun lock, but didn't win one. Of course, I would have had a better chance had I put my tickets in the drum... |

you do get tickets for your card. the more caches you do the more tickets you get. my wife and i only filled about half of the card cause we spent more time talking and hangin out with fellow cachers. thats where we found to have the most fun. meeting new caching friends and past caching friends from past bash years. |

You can have mine. I picked it up a couple years ago and it's still sitting on the workbench. Would've helped to have a gun to lock , I guess. |

I have often thought that a number of people put way to much importance on finding all the caches. Personally I prefer to spend the time meeting new people, and visiting with old friends. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy me some power caching as much as the next guy but for this one weekend in August I would much rather sit back and enjoy some awesome geocaching fellowship. |

So many caches and so many people and so very little time.......... Can understand both ends of the spectrum.
Really don't consider getting all the Ba$h's caches as 'power caching', nor do we have the itch to get any FTF's. Rather, it's more about sampling one huge, varied and limited-time smorgasbord of caches. Kind of like attending a trade show, where talented CO's gather to showcase their craft. And we love free samples! There always seems to be a great variety in the offerings, certainly a lot of effort and creativity put into the caches, and indeed a lot of connections and memorable moments to be had out on the trails.
Hope to make it back, and find every creative, crazy, and challenging cache that's placed specifically for the Event.
Oh, and the prizes? No lock (er, luck) so far, but that's not why we attend. If you don't expect to win, and you can't be disappointed. |

I think I got one of the new caches last year. Too busy doing other tasks. Glad someone mentioned the whole "events aren't about finding caches" thing, as that holds true for all events. What if the WBCB committee chose not to put out new caches, would you not go to the event at all, or would your focus change? |

I would still go, get some of the existing caches, and do whatever the focus of the event would then be. When WBCB first happened, I was new to geocaching and didn't know anyone, so it was all about finding caches. Now it is still about finding caches, but also about doing as much of the weekend as I am able. So many things with the WBCB, you can focus on caches, you can socialize, you can do the bingo, the contests, the pancake breakfast, Friday night event, Sat. night event...or try to do it all like I do (and fail, but what fun to try!). |
