Large number of daily finds?

How is that accomplished? I see cachers that have a single day total of 100....200...900...? We did 30-something once and we were tired. It doesn't seem like there are enough minutes in a 24 hour period for a cacher to go to that many caches. I have wondered about this for a long time and I am curious what I am missing.....

Powertrails (i.e. caches placed along a specific trail or road spaced just beyond the 0.1 mile minimum cache separation distance).

Teamwork (i.e. "leapfrogging" which is allowed / encouraged on some powertrails. This involves having a couple of spare containers and dropping one with the log signed at the spot you pick up the container. As you're moving to the next one someone else is signing the log and you continue the drop / grab / sign process as you go)

Hell, like the OP, I get tired after 30. Most I've done was 41 and that was all over Appleton in a disorganized manner - lol. Imagine how much I would have gotten if I planned my run better.

I'm never one for numbers. I will also never log a cache I didn't find, even if I was with a team, of whose member found said cache.

Load up a bunch of recently found 1/1's, 1 vehicle with a driver, runner, and logger with a well planned route and you'll get high numbers even off of power trails.

The merits of doing it this way will be up for debate for all eternity.

Twice I did over 100. One was in a car with my wife driving and another was a bike trail with them spaced 428 ft. apart. It was a long day, more an endurance race than anything else.

Thursday a friend and I did 71 from 2 pm until 9 pm. Luckily, we did run into some fun ones but many were just park and grabs.

I have to investigate the GSAK macro or whatever that is for writing logs. A busy 4 days caching weekend gave me over 150 and also over 15 miles walked. I'm beat.

With a little planning it can be done. I assisted in 41 cache hunt that was spaced across Shawano County. This trip was well planned and after couple of caches the two of us were well coreographed (me navigating, and my partner in crime driving and signing logs, both of us looking) We were going for specific caches. We completed those 41 in 12 hours with about 45 minute lunch stop. The average difficulty was 1.5/2 X 1.5/2.

Best day for us was 211 in a little over 7 hours, power trail in Lower Michigan, all caches were on the Passenger side of the road, hints given to as what kind of tree and aprox size, all hidden hanging in the same mannor. Could have done another 100 yet, but just was tired of jumping out of the truck. Val was driver and Navigator, I did the finding and signing.

I have no doubt that this is possible, and I have heard of folks doing a thousand in 24 hours in some of the desert power trails. My only question would be....Why? This doesn't strike me as a very enjoyable way to spend time, just driving down a road stopping at every pole. I guess it takes all kinds.

I suspected it had something to do with the 'team' approach. So....if I form a team with 20 cachers....and we all do 50....there's 1000....crazy! It doesn't reflect MY effort as a cacher. Thanks to all for the very quick responses! Hope to see you on the trail...trying to find 40 in a day..... Smile

We too wondered about the people who grab an extremely high number of finds in a day and we have come to this conclusion:

Everyone gets something different out of geocaching.

If they want to grab only earthcaches, go for it and have fun.
If they want to grab only puzzles, go for it and have fun.
If they wan to grab 1000 park-n-grabs on a marathon run, go for it and have fun.

As long as they don't expect everyone else to do it their way, they should go for it and have fun

We like to grab a variety of caches in smaller quantities and we have fun.

So, just as long as their 1000 P&G fun doesn't interfere with our fun, they should go for it and have fun (as it is defined in their geocaching circle, we might define it differently).
