I wonder if he made it to eagle scout? Then he could soar over the peak for visits. Great story. |

Dooooood it was like the 70's man... remember, kids rode in the back window of the car, no seat belts, we drank from the hose...stayed OUTSIDE until it was dark playing with human FRIENDS and not electronic friends....
OH those were the days. |

Times have changed, haven't they? But we still had the Buddy System in the 70's. I remember doing Hiking Merit Badge with Bob Montgomery. For our 20 mile hike we went to the Illinois Railroad Museum. They had a Dr. Pepper machine that sold 12 oz glass bottles of Dr. P for 10 cents. We bought a bunch of them for the hike home. Went to open the first ones and realized that we didn't have an opener. So I opened them all with my teeth Man, was that stupid! Fortunately I didn't break any teeth. |

It's still like that in many communities. You're going to have to look hard to find it in a Metro area but in rural Wisconsin communities it still lives. |

If you see kids outside playing in town, near dark, do you think, "gee, it's nice that they're not inside playing video games," or, "what a shame that the parents are letting these little hellions run wild"??? |

Where's the Leave No Trace outrage over this? Think this judge should be pinched for littering in a National Park, by golly! Litter bug! What if every scout did this? It's like throwing soap into Old Faithful!
Besides, he should have just carved his initials in a tree, or chiseled them into the rocks like a true pioneer....and then the GC community could make an Earthcache out if it.....or could have made a 5T Virtual......... Kids! |
