WGA Website Content

Candidates,
To keep members coming back to the WGA website, it needs to be interesting, active and vibrant. Content for the front page can be submitted by any WGA member, but most of the articles are written by board members. Ideally, there should be at least one new article every week. Given the palette of anything related to geocaching in Wisconsin, there should be plenty to read.
If you were to write an article about anything relateded to geocaching in Wisconsin, what would you write about?
If elected, would you commit to creating content for the WGA website?
How many articles would you commit to writing over the next two years?

I like variety so any article I write would be something that has crossed my mind lately. I could see mysefl adding content after running across a unique area or particular cache or situation while out.

Somewhere on the forums I have mentioned writing an article that would highlight different areas of the state- hopefully highlighting a place few have had a chance to explore before.

Good topics would be using the forum topics Recommened Caches or Earthcaches and I'd also ask around for member submissions. Pretty sure everyone would get tired of me droning on. I know they do at home, at least.

How many would I write? Can I promise 2 a year and then surpise everyone with more? It'd get easier the more I do and then I'd be a little more comfortable with the process.

I would most likely write about Outdoor Ethics. I wouldn't simply write one cache all article, but instead I would break it up and highlight specific information that is relevant in our caching society. I would incorporate both Leave No Trace and Tread Lightly in my articles. As far as how many I would write, I would write at least 4 each year.

I think it should be a variety of topics and writers. Keeps us interested and coming back for more. Ideas for topics right off the top of my head include the following:
- Recommend caches for winter
- Geocaching Stories
- Geocaching Tips
- Earthcaches
- Night caching

I would like too see a different writer every week. Also, including submissions from any WGA member willing to share. I personally would commit to writing 4-5 each year.

Most of my logs are long enough to turn into some kind of article about geocaching in Wisconsin. Kelso has some great ideas listed there too! They say that a picture is worth a thousand words, what if from time to time there could be a "Seen while geocaching" photo with a story with it. I also like the idea of tips for newbies or even good reminders for those who have been doing this a while, like how/when/where to get permission for hiding. Also, occasional blurbs about site features like COTM or LCG would be nice, you never know when some newbie is going to wander on to the WGA site.

Beccaday brings up a good idea for photos. It made me think maybe not only photos with stories but also "photo of the month". Where geocachers can submit their photos from their adventures and the board can vote on the best one.

I like the above ideas, I have to admit, I am not much of a story writer, even with my 5 years of working at a newspaper, I did lots of photography, copy setting and editing, but not much writing. My main job there was printing the paper. but when you work at a weekly paper, there is many other jobs to do.

I do take many photos and could contribute them to the site.

If I were to write an article it would most likely be any of the following topics: a summary of a geocaching event, a promo of an upcoming event, a story about a day out geocaching or first aid tip for on the trail.

Would I commit to writing, actually I think it is just as important to encourage other geocachers to get their name out there and write. Too often, I see newer cachers who just need encouragement to get involved. It sometimes is just the "nudge" that they need ..

Considering that my writing style is "stream of consciousness," I'm not sure you'd want articles that I might write; especially since I never know where my writing will take me. However, if you need content, I can usually supply something on any topic. I think I can give you something every month or 2. I might need to ask for topics, though.
