I'm working on a project, maybe some of you can guess what it is. But I'd like to gather some recommendations on your favorite Earth Caches in Wisconsin. I am fairly familiar with them in the southeast corner of the state and I've visited a few more around the rest of WI but definitely not enough to really make the best recommendations and variety.

If you could please name just a couple of your favorites and maybe one sentence or two on why they're you're favorites I'd really appreciate it. I'll get the ball rolling:

GC27BNR: This EarthCache brings you to beautiful Harrington Beach State Park and provides information about the history of the quarrying that used to go on here along with the earth science lesson. It takes you from the kiln, a pretty walk through the woods to the beautiful quarry lake and then to the old quarry equipment left on the beach.

Thanks LB7, I appreciate it! You had good recommendations, I've done a couple and would like to do all of them.

Anyone else? How about northern WI?

Tough question! There are so many excellent ones. I've scored only 40 or so in Wisconsin so far, almost all in Northern Wisconsin and these 5 stick out in my memory looking at my list. I've listed what really is special to me about my choices also. Hope this helps.

1.Boulderstash, GC17721, North of Langlade (Such a fascinating boulder field. Massive samples everywhere in this area. It's like you're in a giants bag of marbles.)

2.St. Peterís Dome, GC1BAQA, West of Copper Falls (Unbelievable view from on top of an ancient lava flow.)

3.Bunyanís Bowling Ball, GC1EODE, NW of Clam Lake (Excellent, massive fossil. Excellent signage which explains it beautifully.)

4.The Namur Drumlin, GC3FDFJ, Namur (Glacial feature we have all seen and often donít realize. Beautifully presented here.)

5.Black Granite, GC1A3WR, N of Mellen (Gorgeous anortrhosite rock outcropping right on the highway. It sparkles beautifully in the sun when damp or wet. Against a snowy backdrop it's even better. Mellen has large samples all over the community also.)

GC1A5D0 Valley of the Ice Grotto - no ice when we visited because of warm winter, but an awesome hike in a beautiful area. plus it was lonely Wink

GC3R8Z6 Ferry Bluff SNA EC - great workout jogging to the top of the bluff and wonderful views down the river

GC3DKEC Under the Glacier--The Wilkie Gorge - Cross Plains SP, undeveloped but still one of my favorite places to visit and explore

GC1A9G8 Driftless: Natural Bridge State Park - great park, peace and quiet as there's never anyone out there plus one of the oldest sites of human habitation in the NE US

GC1A9G5 IATCC - Parfrey's Glen SNA - Parfrey's Glen, 'nuff said

GC1Z45H This Gibraltar Rock is Really Lying Out There - awesome spot, used to rock climb here before it was closed. also used to be able to run to the top, not so much anymore

GC1YDTJ Holes in the Devil - Potholes Trail at Devil's Lake, always a fun climb

I really enjoyed the St. Peters Dome EC near Ashland.

I also love the Pewit's Nest area near Baraboo. Not to sound cocky or selfish, but I do have an EC there and I would consider the Nest to be one of Southern Wisconsin's most hidden gems (hence, why I placed one there).

The EC at Lapham Peak's tower is also very cool.
