Now for something completely different.....

The Big Year record for North America that was immortalized in the movie of the same name was broken two days ago. I don't bird like those guys....at all. But I just finished updating my sightings and discovered I added 22 new life birds this year, about half of which were when we went out west this summer and the other half close to home....just lucky migration sightings.

I'm 17 birds away from breaking the 300 mark (for North America). I just wonder....if we'd been birding and not sightseeing and geocaching....would this have been the year I broke that barrier???? It's taken me a long time to get from 200 (found while biking on the bike trail by my house) to almost 300. The hazards of mostly 'green' birding.

That's awesome! I hit 107 birds for the year ending with three snowy owl sightings within 5 minutes of each other near Freedom last weekend. Was also surprised that the downy woodpecker on our backyard feeder has been joined by a red bellied woodpecker! Hoping to start 2014 right, we're thinking of heading out this coming weekend to try and spot the northern hawk owl that was seen and photographed in Door County today.

Thought about a FTF run, but not with -9 degree temps and what I assume is water crossings. That could be a recipe for disaster.

noticing the mention of tea. Got a bit hooked at Teavana at the Mall in Grand Chute.

Teavana is high priced, high pressure, little knowledge and low on choices (IMHO). They were recently purchased by Starbucks which brings an interesting twist consider Starbucks is already tightly tied to the Tazo brand (not sure what the business relationship is here though).

Just a mere 1/4 mile away is Fava Tea in the out-lot (SW from ToysRUs and SE a bit from Chilis and 2 doors away from Penzeys Spice which is another great stop). 300+ tea varieties (which trumps Teavana by a long shot). Very knowledgable staff that can help you narrow in on what you may like. No sales pressure. Sniffing tins of all their teas so you can browse on your own and see / smell what's in the sealed tins.

I buy my tea at Botanical Indulgences in Neenah on Winneconne. Have you ever stopped there?

Never stopped there, but have seen it numerous times while passing by during lunch. I've always thought it to be "too girly" for a guy like me to go in for tea.

You have to try Botanical Indulgences. Great selection plus they let you take samples home prior to buying.
