Check out the reference about 1 screen down on this event cache page. I guess we are getting nationally
(in)famous.

Some cache event in Portland

Let's go to a TexMex eatery, walk around and find 55 things isn't the same as spending 10 hours walking countless miles.

These people need to attend one of our events, but this topic has been beat into the ground over and over again. Image

Looks to me like a commercial/virtual cache with no log books and very temporary in nature. Image

The way they are running that is not even close to any such "Wisconsin Rules for Event Caching"

What a cheap (completely ignorant) stab.

Anyone here care to host a lame event Portland style? We can all stand around looking at the ceiling and the jukebox checking off items on a list and racking up the smilies! Sounds like my kind of event! Who's in? Image

Is this really even worth another discussion? We've seen it before and will most likely see it again! Smalls minds are everywhere.

The only thing I can say is that perhaps someone who still has the files from their event should post a note to the cache page. Attach a link to the file w/ the map and description of the hides so that those choosing to can see what we really do, rather than getting an outsider's opinion. (Hint, hint Ron!...Did someone say Port Washington?)

It's never going to change until Groundspeak says it MUST! We'll keep putting on quality events with good hides and go from there. No sense worrying about them.

No it's not worth another discussion.... BUT....

How many WI event caches have had temp caches floating around the breakfast/dinner table? Their event looks like a similar thing to me.

It's a stab with a poor example no doubt, but in some respects it is not so far from what has happened at a few events in WI.

I felt compelled to email the cacheowner and this was my response.

Uncle_Fun,
I am guessing that you are looking at my Event Cache which is coming up
this week. My poking fun at the Wisconsin Campout was done in good humor.
I don't have any problem with multiple logging of caches if the cache is
setup that way to begin with. I caused quite a stir here in Oregon with
this one. But I figure those folks that are going to let this bug them
should just get a sense of humor. I did finally get some to start thinking
outside the box....they are thinking of ways to be creative and different.

Again, there was no intent to insult Wisconsin cachers. If you were
offended, I truly apologize.

JayBee

Ah yes, "pocket caches". They happen at Wisconsin events, Portland events, and lots of other places too. We could start a whole other thread about the validity of them.

But I don't recall ever seeing a pocket cache at a WGA event. And that's why I think it's unfair to compare the two events in that listing. People may have run up 55 finds in one day at the campout, but they didn't do it sitting around in a restaurant.

It was nice of the event host to apologize, but I see he's not changing the cache page.

Now that I've vented a little, I'm going to take the MB approach and not worry about it any more. Cheers!

Image "Pocket caches"- I like that term! Image

I totally agree that it's not a WGA thing, that is why I called it a poor example.

I don't care what anyone else logs, as long as no one tries to tell ME what to log. Again, it's never been an issue, and hopefully never will be.
