While at work... yeah I do actually WORK at work... Image anyway... a coworker came to me and told me to go to this link:
http://www.usatoday.com/travel/news/2006-01-19-geocaching_x.htm

I think I'll pass on spending the $75 mentioned and bring my own goddies!! Image

That's cool! I tell Bob all the time that I should see if my resort will allow me to "drop" a couple there. Perhaps this article can be used as a "selling point"...time will tell...

Hey.. if it draws more people and creates more income for a resort, WHY NOT!! If people are tired of the same old same old when on vacation, maybe that would bring `em back!

I don't think the resorts need any more money...the fact that they are charging guests for the "kit" annoys me tremendously!

I just want to place some caches. I work in Lake Geneva. We have beautiful grounds and several seldomly used trails. There are a lot of areas that most people don't even get to see.

Many times when people are going to meetings/outings they travel with family members. Though there are several other activities available, if the resort were to offer geocaching to guests, those not golfing or working would have something else to do on the property.

Can't speak for all resorts, I just know what would be fun at my resort.

LOL - $75? That's a little steep...

Amy and I were camping in the Black Hills last summer on our way out to Seattle. The campground we were staying at that night had a weekly geocache on their activity sheet we got when we paid for our site. That was pretty neat. Just a simple cache, but it was fun. Oh... it was free too!

Starved Rock State Park in IL has several letterboxes. They actually have a little brochure listing them. Letterboxes are tough! I found one, and it was a fun journey!

They don't have any fees for them!

Heres a little excerpt form the location charging $75

"Successful geocaching requires teamwork, communication and problem solving skills. This location take the activity one step further by developing a private geocaching course on its 1,000 acre property. This private course allows us to be innovative with the activity and to offer higher quality rewards within each cache. Guests are also welcome to rent GPS units to search for the hundreds of “public” caches hidden within the Jackson Hole area. If you plan on geocaching during your stay, remember to bring fun mementos from your region to leave in each cache for others to find."

Rates:
$75 / half day (private geocaching course)
$50 / day (GPS rental for public caches)

Well.. sounds like a lot to rent a GPS and then have to return it, but I guess you'd do the same if you rented a horse or canoe or something.

Hmmmmm... some hair brained ideas brewing in my head now LOL
