Just sharing what people probably already know.

I was just killing time and noticed that I have found very little geocoins to log. I built a PQ to see how many there are within a 100 mile range of my Zip code and came up with only 26 coins. Now, these 100 miles included Wisconsin, Iowa, and Minnesota since they fall into that range. No wonder I hardly ever see a coin. Out of 499 caches there are only 26 coins.

Wondering if my thought that places like Milwaukee would have a far greater numbers I ran the same PQ in the Milwaukee area and found a gross amount of coins. I stopped counting after the 1st two pages since some caches had multiple coins and I was quickly exceeding my count in my area.

What’s the point of this? Well truthfully not completely sure myself except it sure would be nice to possible get coins out of the cities and across the state more.

My guess would be that coins are located in high cache density areas. More caches in an area = more coins. The closer caches are together the more likely people are to visit an area (and bring coins with them). I’d suggest placing more caches in your area to make it a destination; cachers and coins will follow.

Some caches in the Milwaukee area have coins listed but the coins are physically not there. Check out:

If you read through the logs, you'll see many have visited seeking a coin only to be disappointed and some down right mad. pyronesis wants something bad to happen to the responsible parties nether region. Image

Milwaukee metro area has a number of caches with virtual coins in them. You find the cache, you can log the coins, but not actually see them. Still, if you like to see those pretty icons on your trackables page .....

Uhhmmm... wow

Not to sure what to say about that. Oh I give it a shot….

I personally don’t care what others do and how they do it unless it directly affects me. If I went to a cache to find a coin and it was not there because it was a virtual coin I would be pissed (just a little). I’m of the touch it - feel it to log it type.

Just to show how far I take it with MYSELF.

I went to an event recently and was able to touch and feel the coins while at the event. I did not log a single coin yet since I’m still at conflict with myself at not actually finding the coins in a cache. I might be taking it too far but as I said it’s just how I view it and has no bearing on others.

Part of me however thinks that having coins listed in a cache that are not really there is wrong. (Lost coins is another story) I say this since most cache trips now take a better part of a day and I not sure about others but I would be disappointed if part of my trip was to hit caches with coins in them and find out that the coin never really existed in the cache in the first place.

This is just food for thought. Not telling people that they have to change things or want things changed but some people should possible consider the slight deception their cache has and how travelers will view it.

On the GC.com forums some talked about just sending a photocopy of the coins out so it could not actually be stolen. If the photocopy came up missing the owner make new photocopy and send it out again and never loose the coin itself. While this does sound like a great idea the touch it – feel it part me would feel cheated and I would not log the coin.

As I stated in original post it would just be nice to see more coins in caches. The how, why, what of the whole thing is still up to the individuals.
