After a certain person (don't want to mention any names, but his initials are UF) was giving a gentle push this morning to get one of my caches back online, I ran out to replace it at lunch today. Here is the result:

Kind of a good thing actually as it let me know I needed a warning about terrain rating changes with strong North winds.

Wow, great story!
Glad your Ok.

Much worse that my experience ... last October I held a geo-event in Port Washington, one of my hides was out by a navigational marker out on a breakwater. I decided to hide it a couple days early for the event, after leaving my office but on my way to speaking on energy conservation for a small audience. Well I only got hit by one wave, but I still looked silly talking to the group with moist clothes. They would have been dripping wet, if not for the strong winds that dried much of it as I ran back to dry land.

One of my Clue caches went missing a couple of months ago. It's in a natural hole left from a tree that fell over. When I went to check on it, the hole was filled with water and frozen over, so I couldn't tell if the cache was there or not. I put a temporary one in its place until everything melted and I could go and see if it was still there.

I stopped by today to find that the cache (an ammo box) was nowhere to be found. Either it was muggled or it floated away. Considering all the water that was still flowing here and all the rain we had recently, I had to wonder...

I followed the "river" to the spillway and down to the reservoir. I started looking around the water and noticed a high floodline where the water must have risen after the recent rain. I saw a dark shape on the opposite side and wondered, garbage, or..?

I walked around, and sure enough, my cache had migrated about 500 feet away and about 20 feet lower that where I last saw it. Gotta love those ammo boxes though... Everything was dry!

Look at the rocks here. There had to be a lot of water flowing down for an ammo box to make it without getting hung up!

I'm impressed with the floating ammo box. I remember finding that cache, and never thought it could travel so far.... As for cache cleanup, I just got a prod from another cacher that my daughter's was flooded out...and not the stage I expected! I can't believe they waded in and found it! The final was soaked, and I closed it out till the waters receed. PQ
