Always looking for different campgrounds to stay at. I realize there are web sites devoted to this, but I'm looking for personal favorites, and maybe a why it is your favorite response.

Laughing Timber Trail Campground in West Bend. Has a nice swimming pool, hot tub, sand volleyball court, playground, tennis courts, fishing ponds, hiking trail, nice recreation room, reasonable rates and nice (shaded) camping sites. Tami

Wouldn't that be a hotel? There is High Cliff down by Appleton, nice area, decent fishing in Winnebago, and great hiking trails. Also just to the south of that is Calumet County Park, same area, very nice trail system ( used to race mtn. bikes there). And ofcourse there is Hartmans Creek in Waupaca, where the WGA campout is. Best state campground I have been to!

I really like Goodman Park in Marinette county. A great waterfall and nice campsites. Picnic area. And plenty of wilderness.

Go real rustic, head up to Manitowish Waters with a boat and head out to Stone, Clear or Island lakes and use one of the state campsites on those lakes. Awesome fishing spring and fall, lots of area to water ski, good scuba diving, night life etc!

Head over to Little Star and take a swim on the public beach. Visit the Pea Patch for the best burger by a DAM site, then head over to Ski Beach and watch the Sking Skeeters perform a water ski show.

Oh yeah, and don't forget to stop by LaPorte's IGA for all your food and beverage needs at the campsite :>

Let's not forget my most favorite place in the world -- Rock Island State Park. Getting to this park requires two ferry crossings (one car ferry, one passenger ferry) and it's a no vehicles campground. Once you get on that passenger ferry you walk all your stuff to your spot.

It's close to backpack camping (like backpack camping lite) for the most part. Campsite are a comfortable walking distance (I think the most remote ones are less than a mile walk). Campsites are all quite nice, although obviously on the smaller side. Water and firewood are available (firewood was $20 a rick last year).

The staff are all great -- friendly and fun. There are all sorts of neat things scheduled (last year I had a great 1 on 1 tour of the wildflowers on the island with the naturalist). They are geocacher friendly too!

There is lots to see on the little island. Lots of trails, with varied flora and fauna.

Everytime I go, I just want to stay.

Bec

I would second Calumet County Park. It's definitely a different feeling, camping on that big shallow lake, as compared to the lakes Up North.

You gotta see this location, both up close, and from the hill:

One of my favorites is Kohler Andre State Park in Sheboygan. Lots of great sites and it almost like being at the ocean walking the dunes along the lake.

One of my favorite, and most scenic parks I've seen is Rocky Arbor SP in Wisconsin Dells. Very nice camping there too.

My personal favorite is Amnicon Falls SP up by Superior. We stop in to walk along the falls every time we head north. Early spring is the most spectacular time to see the falls.

Did I mention there's a geocache there too?

Our favorite park is Wyalusing SP, high on the bluffs above the Wisconsin and Mississippi rivers. It has beautiful scenery, hiking trails, canoe trails, effigy mounds, historical markers, ball fields, etc. Unfortunately it has only one (multi) cache in the whole 2000 acres.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I have been to about half of those suggested, and maybe all by years end.
