You used to be able to put latitude and longitude coordinates in mapquest, but that option isn't there anymore. Does anyone know of a map that will do that.

Also, do you know of any online maps that allow you to pinpoint places and add to that as time goes on, but keeps the map posted for anyone to see (or for members to see)?

My personal favorite internet-based mapping program is USAPhotoMaps. It allows you to save maps section by section from the microsoft Terraserver to your hard drive, both in aerial photo and USGS Quadrangle maps.

It also has functions for downloading and uploading waypoints with your gps or will handle standard gpx files and many other useful functions. The program can be downloaded from the owners website at http://www.jdmcox.com/

Oh, but I don't recommend it for dial-up customers unless you are working small areas. I have accumulated almost 2 GB of maps on my hard drive, which is less that 1/2 of WI at all zoom levels and both map and aerial views. Image

I agree, Cathunter. USAphoto maps is a great program. Knotmaster and I are working on getting all of Wisconsin downloaded for both the photo (both views) and the topo and then we are planning on putting it on DVDs for ease of reference. We are hoping they will fit on one DVD.

An online program would be http://www.lostoutdoors.com You also have the option to hook directly to most GPSrs.

I am not aware of an online map that will allow you to add waypoints over time for viewing by others. I have had to create several maps using various sources for one of my caches (It Dunn Moved GCE944) as the final cache moves - leaving a micro in it's place stating where the final has been moved to. I simply used map images and overlayed the waypoint markers.

I would be very interested if anyone else knows of such an online system!
