I too have just begun attempting the paperless cache trail. I attempted to try Spinner/Plucker but never got Plucker to run correctly. It's not exactly a user friendly program (IMHO), but then I'm not exactly a computer wiz either. Then a friend (thanks Marty Image) showed me CacheMate. Easy to set up, and easy to load GPX files. I will be trying it out for the first time this weekend, provided my PDA doesn't freeze in this lovely December weather. It's written just for Geocaching and has a lot of neat features, including saving notes, various types of searches, and even using nearest caches. Also read it will allow PDA to be connected to GPS'r to download and/or upload coordinates and other info. I can't wait to try it out. Besides the convenience, the money saved on printer cartridges, and being earth-friendly paperless, just think how much more high tech (read Geek) I'll be looking Image try this link http://www.smittyware.com/palm/cachemate/
Now if I can just find a way to get paid to cache Image

Hmmm, I wish I could get paid for all the time I spend approving Image My wife says people should pay $20.00 to submit a cache. GC.com gets half, approver gets half. She's got my vote Image

All have been helpful in the past. So here's another fun challenge. I have found Jingle Bell cache. But, it has become available, this time in a new place. When I do a querry and a new gpx file arrives, Jingle Bell Cache is not included in the file. Therefore, when I run gpx.spinner, the coordinates are not included, thus not uploaded to my gps.
I know I can input the coordinates directly to my gps, but I would rather not.
How do I edit the gpx_template.gpx template to include the Jingle Bell Coordinates each time I run gpx spinner?

Did a little research and managed to make changes. I have included the template below for reference.
Modify your gpx_template.gpx in the templates directory to resemble the following:

After a few sputtered atempts, I have been fully plucked and spun. Pretty neat program. Just a bit more messing around and time spend waiting for things to get ready for the hotsynch.

Not that I need them, but I see that images do not download. I have depth of pages set for three. Is there some other setting to change or should I just forget the pictures?

Once you open that file, all the available formats are listed there for your viewing pleasure.

You want to change the line that reads-

"Waypoint is the name for waypoints in your GPS receiver. Historically, this has been the equivalent of %C%I, But you may find it more useful too show the actual name of the cache instead. You could also include the
placer and/or the difficulty/terrain ratings if you desire. See the table of Format Specifiers above for more information.

Waypoint_Format = %N"

Change to
Waypoint_Format =%C&I

Let us know if this helps.

Cathunter:

I finally did as you said above, but when I open the spinnerized file in Easy GPS, the Waypoints are all named GCI, MCI VCI, etc. Did I do something wrong? I haven't put them in my GPSr yet because I am at work Image Will they display on the GPSr ok?

My apologies, it appears my original post had a typo. It should have read %C%I NOT %C&I

Along with the Main Cachemate program is another called cmconvert.exe When you find this program amongst your unzipped Cachemate files, make sure you place a copy onyour desktop or make a shortcut or something because this is the utility which will get your PQ (.gpx) files onto your PDA. Here are the steps

1) run cmconvert.exe
2) Click [Load File] and choose the .gpx file you wish to load
3) Click [Select All] to select all the files loaded into cmconvert (or manually select whatever files you would like to upload)
4) Click [Convert] to Convert files and prepare them for download to your PDA. The process for getting the files into Cachemate on your PDA is automatically performed after clicking Convert.

Your files will now be synced to your PDA the next time you HotSync!

Hope this helps!

YES!!!!!!!!!!!! Image Image Image Image Image

Here I've been, cussin' and swearin' at this PDA I now have and making rude gestures to my computer, because I couldn't figure out for the life of me how to get the darn query downloaded onto my PDA!!!!!! So I did a search on the message boards and here it is!!!! It's exactly what I needed!!!

Do you know that this kind of information is nowhere to be found anywhere else on the internet?!?!?!?? If I ever meet you, I owe you breakfast or lunch or dinner.... You just made my day! Now I can go to bed and sleep well, knowing that if I can get out and cache at all tomorrow, I can take the cache *sheets* with me on my PDA now!!! Woo Hoo!!!

(Can you tell I'm pretty darn happy right now??? LOL!)

Has anyone tried GPX Spinner Classic? http://www.gpxspinner.com/spinner.pl

I used this last summer and it worked very very well. What I liked about it was the way it had the feature to sort by distance from home. I tried to use it several times now that I have the Clie', but it doesn't give me all 250 caches like it should. I get about 75 is all.

I can use regular Spinner on my PC, but don't get the caches sorted by distance.

I had it installed from the CD you gave me, but had no idea it could do this too. I love the way it indexes caches by bearing & distance from home! Perfect. I am plucking it as I type and will be hot syncing it an a minute, but right now all I can say is "Perfect"! Image

I was in your neck of town yesterday on a whim driving the back roads with another Miata owner. Was kind of "lost" going through Sussex and Menominee Falls looking for Hwy 41. But made it by going North and East long enough. Image
