I was Touring with Astro D, k0rpl and Benny7210 this past Saturday, when we ran into a newbie.

Well, she has over 200 finds, but still relatively new.

And she did not know about the WGA.

So I was thinking about all the other cachers who are familiar with the WGA, running into relative newbies who do not know about the WGA.

The WGA membership waivers around the 840 range. I am quite positive there are many more cachers in the state, and that many do not know of the WGA.

Is there an incentive to talk about the WGA with them? What about a short handout that can be given to them? Something else?

We first learned about the WGA by clicking on the WGA link on someone's cache page. We plan to put the link on all our caches (when we get them up and going--waiting for permission).

When we started, we were looking for the answers to some of our questions in the groundspeak forums, but those are so wide-ranging, and they didn't address what we wanted, so we were glad to find the forums on WGA (we lurked for a bit first).

Even though participants are from all over the state, it's still a lot more informative than talking to someone from Sweden, Australia, etc. The issues are more relevant, and everyone here can relate to the snow depth gripes!

A handout wouldn't be bad--even one with just the web address on it (and emphasize that there is no cost).

I try to post that little WGA sign on my new caches. How to do that, can be found "HERE" or click on the WGA menu to the left, under Wiki.

The only thing I found frustrating is that when I put it into existing cache pages, it shifts all the test to a left justification. I am not sure if including it as a comment to the approver, on a new cache submission, to put it in "such & such" a place on your cache page, if the approver can change the page setup so things don't shift. Maybe they can fix that issue on existing cache pages too......I just never asked Embarassed

Thanks for the link Anne! I cut and pasted one into all of my existing cache pages and it looks great. I hope it helps others become aware of the WGA. Thanks again Very Happy

I guess since we all don't carry a laptop with a satellite card with up when we are out caching it would be nice to have WGA flyer that can be out in our cache bags and handed to the new folks that we may meet on the trail.

What about something in business card size and format. They would be easy to carry and the cost is minimal if presented with all of the layout complete. They could be available for anyone who wanted some at WGA events.

Anne,

You can center the WGA logo by simply adding the following at the very beginning of the supplied HTML. Just add "<center>" without the quotes.

We also found out about the WGA site from clicking one of the links on a cache page. It surprises me how few people put these links in.

Time for a poll.

What about WGA stickers that you put on the outside of the cache containers, rather than the standard Geocaching.com ones?

Excellent idea as long as they are heavily cammo'd. Very Happy

What about WGA stickers that go on the back of your cache vehicle Smile Kinda like the Karate America one's. I used to have an FTF sticker on my vehicle but that went away with the vehicle. I actually like showing up to a cache location parking area and seeing cars with "signs" that a cacher is near Smile

Actually they exist already, bonus! -- http://www.cafepress.com/wigeocaching.3335614

OK, I have been mulling this over, and have a more concrete suggestion.

This is something for the Board to consider, and work on.

Create a business card for the WGA, with it's name, logo and website shown on the front. On the reverse could be info on what the WGA is, what it has to offer, etc.

The Board would have it printed (in bulk). Then distribute x number of cards to cachers who are hosting events. Also distribute them in some manner to cachers who request them to have to pass to others they meet on the trail.

That is a good Idea Marc...I can't tell you how many times I have told noobs about wi-geocaching.com having nice cards made up would be cool to give out (or even leave in geocaches).

I have "GPS" and "Geocache" stickers on my car but to be honest that makes it a target for thieves as GPS units (car type) are the latest smash and grab sensation for punks.
