Every once and awhile I will have to delete a find. This is a really hard thing to do but the logging rules which we as Earthcache owners have to follow are clear on this point.

From the Earthcache website:

Quote:
Logging of EarthCache sites must involve visitors undertaking some educational task that relates to the site. This could involve them measuring or estimating the size of some feature or aspect of the site, collecting and recording some data (such as time of a tidal bore), or searching and sending via e-mail to the developer, some earth-science fact that they find from signage that relates to the site. Developers should try to involve visitors in learning from the site rather than just logging a visit. Logs should show that the visitors have 'learnt' by visiting your EarthCache site. Taking a photograph alone, having visitors sending a word from a sign, or asking people to do internet research does NOT meet these logging guidelines.

I attempt to make things VERY clear on the cache pages yet people continue to forget to upload pictures or provide me with incorrect answers....while I do allow leeway on the answers given to me the picture requirement for me is an absolute. No pic no find.

Please remember to read the cache pages carefully and fulfill the cache owners logging requirements as best you can and as owners we need to make the requirements as clear as possible.

Ya gotta do what ya gotta do! Hate to say it, but there are people out there who don't even go to Earthcaches or even regular caches and falsely take a Smiley.

A rule I follow when placing an EC is make sure there is at least one requirement they can't just look up on the internet AND make `em bring the camera.

Personally, I don't know what people get out of logging falsely.

No more Mr. Nice Guy...4 of the 5 people who logged my Iowa EC have not met the very simple requirements : wrong answers...photos not matching requirements...I'm frankly disappointed. I wont be placing another EC in Iowa. I have given the last two finders a two month deadline to get the required photos uploaded...from here out there will be a lot less nonsense on that one allowed. Digital Dan and I did this one. We have not logged on it yet. I had to get my pics downloaded first. How on earth can someone screw it up???

What we do before going out hunting EC's is make up a spread sheet including columns for:

    The Name, D/T, and coords
Special instructions like parking coords, times or fees,
Tools needed to get required info
    Requirements (questions asked)
Space for answers to the questions

We carried these sheets thru all 61 finds in Indiana. It was a life saver. Of course we always have our Palms with the cache page info too. We also have an Earthcaching Kit we put together. Take that with us wherever we go Smile

Holy Cow My Iowa EC has been racking up deleted logs! People cannot seem to get the pic uploaded there. I'll bet I have deleted nearly a dozen logs now (for no picture) between my various EC's. And you wonder why I have been creating EC's only to give them away...

I read this with interest - I only have three EC's but they are all doing well with the photos, etc. I have one in rural Kentucky that is pretty cool - its near a waterfall that you can see a moonbow at during full moons. One of the questions I asked isn't found anywhere on any signs there, so some of the people get the answer wrong - but because the idea is to learn something, I usually just email them with the correct answer. As long as they have the photo and they gave the question a good shot - all is good.

I am like minded about the questions...there is much leeway granted but I draw the line at the photo req (in most cases).

I usually try to include extra information when I email owners of Earthcaches!!! I figure someone took the time to setup an Earthcache, I might as well show that I actually took the time to enjoy the cache and learn something about the area.

I beleive the trouble comes from people not actually reading the cache page either before or after going on the hunt. I tend to read all the cache pages for which I am going to log. Some I read before seeking the cache (Mystery/Puzzle, Multi, Earthcache and Virtual)...while the rest (mainly Traditional and Letterbox) I read when I am logging my finds.

I have only one Earthcache to care for...I have deleted two finds...but I have several Additional Logging Requirement caches for which I have deleted finds from...from my view, if people would actually do their "homework" then their logs would not need to be monitored and possibly deleted...

Until you actually put one together, you just don't realize how much work goes into monitoring these special types of caches (those with specific requirements).

I feel for you lostby7, I really do!!!
PS...I really enjoyed Rock Elm!!!

HEY! Is that the one at Cumberland Falls? Cool place! But the trails get really muddy and slippery after it rains. Embarassed Guess who fell.

YES! We went to Cumberland Falls last summer on a whim - we FINALLY sold our house and needed a vacation, but it was too expensive to fly the 5 of us somewhere, so we drove to Kentucky (doesn't everyone??). I picked Cumberland Falls because of the whitewater rafting there - the kids had a blast and it was beautiful - it was a really pleasant suprise that it was so nice after having just basically picked the place out of the blue.

I'm hoping to get back there again next month when I go to visit friends in Jellico, TN. What a great place!

Hey LB7.. are you finding that these are Newbees not e-mailing or putting photos on??? Or is it a combination of both??
