We just returned from an AWESOME trip to the Straits area. DOC. and accordiongal met us for two days of caching the island. We had our bikes and pedaled our little hearts (and butts!) to find all 60 caches on the island in two days, at a fairly leisurely pace. You'll have to work to get to the top of the island for those caches, but they are all caches that can be found, some of them very clever, others are Trekkin's favorite, ammo cans in the woods.

Trekkin' and I had been there before and done the fort and the Grand Hotel, so after this weekend, we feel we truly know that island. It's a great way to see lots of areas of the island where almost no one goes. I'd highly recommend this trip!

We were on the island last year and found a handful of caches. We had to do some of the other touristy stuff, and only had one day. We climbed the stairs/trail to Arch Rock and THEN saw the horse carriage about 50 feet away... Confused
Did you stay overnight on the island?

That was an amazing trip! Although any time spent caching with Trekkin' and birdin' generally will bring you to something fun, challenging, awe-inspiring, and you will laugh alot and get numbers.

The weather was perfect and the amount of ground cover was minimal. They don't seem to have nettles on that island. Gorgeous scenery every step of the way gave you a reason to stop and catch your breath. Some of the shoreline vistas and rock formations took my breath away anyway!

Maybe I'll have to go to Midwest GeoBash and sell tickets for people to cache with these guys!!!! Hmmmmm......... Cool

Power caching - Yooper style ! What a way to get numbers!!!!

You mean he talks normally below the border? LOL

We really did have an awesome time, fueled by DOC.'s incredible shore lunches. We did not stay on the island. We were chatting with some locals who told us that if you watch the papers and such, there are good deals to be had at the B and Bs that bring it within reach of anyplace on the mainland. That was another fun aspect of our travels, as we chatted with several local folks. Caching the island gets you away from the touristy places to where people live. I loved the freedom of riding around and not having to dodge anything other than an occasional horse pulling a buggy!

Some people stayed in a hotel. Some of us camped. Guess which was which! LOL
