These are such a rare thing, I nearly suffer apoplexy when I find one. Just ask drhaas!

I've hidden four of these, and will continue to make more of our caches letterbox hybrids when I can. I'd love to see some others out there, too, so we can find more! If you need any help in setting one up, just holler.

Thanks for reading.....

Hey Birdin I would offer to help, but its a little far Very Happy

Just thought I would ask what exactly is a Letterbox Hybrid? I am sure its not a alternative fuel letterbox, but beyond that I dont know

It is the same as a regular geocache (traditional, multi, or mystery) except the contents include a stamp which letterboxers use to stamp there books and a stamp book that letterboxers imprint their personal stamps into. Typically these are cross-listed on Letterboxing.org, but that is not a requirement. Many of them are "mystery" types where the coordinates take you to some random spot and then you are given verbal instructions to get to the final site, but again, that is up to the cache owner.

Is there a limit to the verbal instructions? IE then a reviewer would suggest it be an unknown cache? Can there be reference points to gather info for the final as in a multi or an unknown and still be a letterbox?

Letterboxes can be just like a mystery cache. There is nothing you could do that would push it to be "too much like a mystery cache". That said, be sure you have GPS usage to find the cache. If you are using verbal directions, they should start at some random point, not at a parking lot, trail intersection, or other "obvious" location which could be found without a GPS. Note that this same restriction applies to mystery caches.

Thanks for the information, Dave. Maybe people will be more inclined to place a few more of these, now that they understand them. I see gotta run put out a new one. I have another one I want to place and if we ever get our canoe series out, at least one of those will be a letterbox hybrid, too.

The two that Digital Dan placed were really fun ones, set up more like a traditional letterbox hunt.
