Any suggestions for caches in and around Las Vegas? Robin and I are heading out there for a week, and hope to cache maybe 4 days of the 7 days we have.

There are several virts in the WGA Recommended Caches bookmark list. That is a start.

If you would like to get away from the lights and inner city go check out RED ROCK CANYON for some good old outdoors. Be sure to hunt for the caches in late afternoon so you will be there near sunset.

Red Rock Canyon would be my recommendation as well. Beautiful area. Just keep an eye out for the wild burros in the road Very Happy

Thanks, that is 2 votes for Red Rock, so that sounds like a plan.

Does anyone have experience with the side trip up to Utah? Looks like 120 miles or so. About 160 to Zion National Park. Anyone been to Zion?

Count us in for a vote for Red Rock. We are planning to hit that area in November to get some of the higher terrains for blackout.

The best 1/1 cache I have done, and actually one I think we will not forget is GCQ596 A Special Memory. Uniquely different and classy but not for anybody with commitment issues Very Happy

The drive from Vegas to St George Utah straight thru is roughly 2 hours. Saint George was very nice and you should be able to find a nice variety. We only did 6 so no real recommendations.

Dont forget the Virgin Gorge section of Northwest Arizona. As I remember there were caches at almost every scenic overlook that I-15 takes thru there. However there maybe construction in this area (there was last year about this time and the overlooks were closed)

Outside of Vegas higher clearance vehicles are recommended for caching, I know of at least one cacher who took his rental VW bug offroading.

Finally enjoy and if you do some abosulte killer caches let me know which ones so I can add them to my must do list

Thanks for the info on St George as well.

You mentioned the off road caches. I was looking at some of those. I am guessing it is not a good idea to take a rental car into the desert on off pavement roads, though I will be tempted.

When we traveled to Vegas last fall, the car rental company ran out of Sebrings and offered us a brand new 4 door pickup instead. I saw it as a sign of divine intervention indicating we were meant to cache off road.

One of the days, we managed to hit the caches around the Hoover Dam and then drove into Arizona. There is a beautiful 4 lane white concrete bridge build out in the desert with no obvious purpose; since its only a cattle trail leading up to it. Another great use of tax dollars.

We continued south from there, and ended up in California and we got some caches there too. Then we bolted up north to Utah. And managed some finds up there. However, we had only a mini mag light with us and we were worried about snakes and spiders in the dark. (Yes, we had seen a taratula earlier during the day). We finally headed back south to Vegas.

I guess we would not have hit many desert caches if we had not gotten a truck, but I am sure glad we did. Ended up putting 600 miles on it in 4 days. Oh yes, while we have our UPSs' up here (usual pile of sticks) Look for UPRs over there. Not many sticks to be found.

But most of all have a good time.

We were in Vegas last summer. Caching out there can be difficult. There are some tough hides, and if you go out in the heat, make sure to bring a TON of water. If you think you have enough, double it and that will be good.

There are plenty of virtual caches along the strip which can be fun. Everyone needs to visit the strip. Walk a little, take a picture. It helps you remember your visit, as well as, rack up a few caches.

There is also a very rare...Webcam Cache

The 4 Corners Cache (GCJ067) We didn't get a chance to do this one, but it could be a fun way to leave your mark on vegas!

Probably missed on this one as I'm posting a little late and you may already be in Vegas. My most memorable cache in the area was GC659

Took me about 3 hours and there are fantastic views from the area. A little tougher hide than most out there too. I made the find Feb 5 of '07 and only about half a dozen have visited since then. It's also one of the oldest around, as it was hidden in 2001

Another cache that comes to mind for fun was at a drive thru wedding chapel. I asked Tammy if she wanted anything other than the cache and she opted for something more traditional! LOL
