... was one cool event! (In multiple ways, lol! Brr!!) Thanks for all the work you put into it Rhonda and Tony. Those two parks workers were super nice people. I hope we can meet them on the geocaching trails someday as well!

Little Fishcacher was soooo excited to see another kiddo there - it was great to meet 2/3 of Team Lightningbugs! And we appreciate Hotdogs off Trail for letting the two of us tag along for the caches. Image Thanks bunches!

Sorry we couldn't hang around to nuke some hot dogs with y'all, but Little Fishcacher was being such an angel about the whole day so we went straight home as he requested. Mama was reaching the limits of how far she could push him, and knew when to stop.... Image I had a really great time though and would be more than happy to do this again!

I agree!
These are the types of events that make people think very positive things about geocaching.
Thanks also to the Parks Department people who guided us on our way.
They sure asked a lot of questions about geocaching which usually leads them into our activity.
Way to go Rhonda and Tony!!!

The 2/3 of our team that attended (L.B. Mum and L.B. Boy) had a lot of fun meeting everyone! Especially Fishcachers - it really was great seeing another kid there. And also wzbt who has placed so many of the caches we have found recently...and everyone else who's usernames we know - now we have faces to go with them! Like I said in our log, this should definately be an annual event. Geocachers are great at beheading flowers! Image

Although I could not attend, I want to thank Rhonda for all the effort she has put forth with the Madison area parks. It is efforts like these that are going to keep WI geocaching friendly.

This was a great day. I was very pleased with the turn out of cachers, and the city workers commented on how pleased they were with our group. It seems that often times they get groups such as Fraternities/sororities (not that there is anything wrong with that...I was in one in college), and they really haven't proved to have the work ethic that our group had. They also were pleased with the wide variety of demographic that our group was composed of. They were very intrigued by geocaching and one of the employees took a GPSr and found one of the temps. They asked great questions. I think we all learned a lot from this event and it should most certainly be an annual event. I would really like to see more service events like this one popping up throughout the state.

At the risk of sounding really felt great to do something that was good for the environment...and giving back a little time. It is because of service projects like the one that we were a part of that allows parks to have more prairie/natural areas and less "manicured golf course looking parks." With cutting of funding to parks programs, volunteers are going to be necessary to keep all of our parks beautified and cared for.

I WILL be doing this again, and I really appreciate the City of Madison Parks/Conservation employees, Charlotte and Jason, for being so helpful and kind. I think everone learned a lil' something through this event.

Thanks to all that took part in the couldn't have been done without you all!!!

(I previously posted this on the Could you donate 3 hours thread~didn't want anyone to miss it, so I'm putting it here too)

This was a wonderful day! It was colder than any of us would have liked it to be, but when we considered the reason we were there it didn't really matter. The park workers were very cool people. Though seemingly quite young, they were very knowledgeable about, and inspired by the work they do. They were also quite appreciative to have us there. I think I heard words of thanks at least 50 times in the 3 hours we were there. We collected a lot of the requested seeds, walked a bit more of the area than I expected to be able to walk and even got to grab a few caches before we left there. And yes, MsWiSearcher did get them out with the GPSR and both seemed to enjoy that. Will they do it again? One never knows!
The general consensus of the group involved is that we really need to get out there and do more of these types of things! We wander in and out of these areas on a daily basis, taking from and changing them forever. Why not expend a bit more of that energy giving back a little? I know that I'll be watching and waiting for another chance to help out!
Thanks WiSeachers for setting this one up!
