Beaver Dam Area

We are going to be visiting the Beaver Dam area the week of July 16th through the 23rd. Any recomendations on some of the better caching areas in Central Wisconsin?

You'll have a nice selection of caches in the triangle Beaver Dam - Horicon - Waupun. Easily 35-40 at the present. If that's not enough, head East to West Bend, where there are about 75-90 in a 10 mile radius.

Agreed. The Horicon Marsh is beautiful, geocaching or not! We've enjoyed caching around it, not as many times as we'd like.

We've cached in Jacksonville before, and had a great time! However, we don't like your big creepy spiders as big as my palm that we walked into! Do you know what kind those are?, (orange and black)

LOL! Those are called Banana Spiders. They do look creepy, but they're really as harmless as kittens. You have more to fear from the saw palmettos.

We've done several of the Horicon caches on previous trips and they were beatiful. This is the first trip to the area when we don't have a wedding or other function going on and will have time to do some cache runs.

Sorry, I don't have anything to add to the actual discussion about caches. Just liked the spideys!

If you don't mind a fairly short drive, may I suggest some caches near Devil's Lake area. It's a beautiful glacial lake about a mile long, half a mile wide, and has 500 foot quartzite bluffs on three sides. One of the prettiest spots in the midwest. Great hiking trails, and caches from under water to almost the top of the bluffs.

Devils Lake is at the top of my list. When we lived in Beaver Dam, we would go to Devils Lake several times every summer. I loved climbing the bluffs. My wife and kids would take the stairs and I'd take the rocks and meet them at the top. Can't wait to do some cacheing there!

While I've only done so once, the Devils Lake area is my favorite geocaching area!

Caches that I recommend there:
- PeeWee's (Pewit's) Small Falls
- Devil's Lake Outback Cache II
- Sauk it to Me, Baby!

There are many more, but these are very memorable to our family.
