New question from the tech impaired...blue tooth nuvi

So we got the nuvi 360, which essentially eliminates the need to get a new Palm. That's good.

The thing is Bluetooth ready. So my questions there are....

Does this mean if I'm anywhere near a hot spot, I can get access? Is there a service charge to enable it? (I think I already know that one).

If we use the Bluetooth, could that allow us to do the WhereIGo caches?

The bluetooth isn't for internet access, it's for connecting other bluetooth devices to your gps.
I've played with the zumo(motorcycle gps), you can connect your bluetooth enabled phone so you can see your caller ID on the screen when you receive calls. You can also search the built in POI database and have the GPS call any of them for you.
Another really cool thing is getting a bluetooth motorcycle helmet, you can hear the turn by turn directions & make phone calls. I'm not for sure, but I think you can listen to the MP3 music files you have on your gps through the helmet too.

they guy on QVC told me that the Garmin nuvi's w/ Bluetooth can also be used to utilize your blue-tooth enabled cell phone to get traffic updates and reroute you around construction and other traffic hazards in many "metro areas". technology is so cool.

I think the guy on QVC was slighting wrong(unless things have changed), to get traffic you need a compatible model, an FM receiver add on and a subscription to MSN direct.

I'm sure they were pitching a model that could actually do it. I was just referencing what the bluetooth "can be" used for.

I figured there was more to it than what they were talking about on the tv. Isn't that always the case?

You can get traffic updates with Bluetooth. It uses your phone's data connection.
You can do hands-free phone calls with the 360 also. You can dial and answer your cell phone while it's in your pocket.

The bluetooth question has already been answered, but I will take a stab at the WhereIGo question.

I downloaded the operating manual for my Nuvi (which is huge) after I had been using it for awhile. According to the manual, you can do WhereIGo with a Nuvi, though I do not know how.

If you really want to do that, download your Nuvi operating manual, and give it a try. I would be surprized if it worked well, but the manual for the 350 said it was possible.

Wow! I didn't know a Nuvi would do Wherigo!
Just looked at the manuals. I could be wrong, but I don't think the 350 will. The 500 has a Wherigo player.
