It will be interesting to see how many caches get "discovered" by people trying to solve the Packer medallion challenge.

My mother- and sister-in-law who are desperately on the hunt have claimed to come across 2 caches thus far...

Ok, I'll bite, what is the Packer Medallion Challenge? I have been out of town a few days so I must have missed something.

It's a Packer draft-party-challenge-thingy. Find the medallion hidden somehwere in a "public location" in Brown County, win Packer tickets and a bunch of stuff. Has nothing to do with using a GPSr but lots of folks out getting intimate with bridges and trees and whatnot trying to figure out the clues that trickle in each day.

Hopefully no one calls the bomb squad!

heard about it on the news awhile back and I thought the same exact thing. Or perhaps maybe a geocacher will find it while looking for a geocache like the person who found the keys to a new car that was being given away in a media event like this.

These type of hunts go way back ....

I can remember roaming thru Telulah Park in Appleton in the late 50's with my Dad, when I believe WAPL, had a treasure hunt for a pencil worth $5000.

And when I was in high school, I remember hiding more pencils, but I can not remember why. Still remember one of the locations. Perhaps a cache?

I think Marc hid pencils so when caches found his they could actually sign the log. Laughing

King Boreas has been putting out letterbox hybrids in St. Paul that are based on the medallion clues from past years of the Winter Carnival medallion hunts. Interesting concept. I've found two of them so far. Takes a lot more research than the usual kind of letterbox hide, but kind of fun.

Well, mom-in-law "found" her third geocache today looking for the medallion. Yes she left them there. But anyone out there "losing" caches?

No, I do not know where the medallion is. I love da Packers but I couldn't care less about this challenge...

I wonder if the organizers got permission from the land manager, clearly labeled the medallion and had the foresight to not attach a 'fuse' looking string to the medallion?

...oops, sorry, I couldn't resist as I just read that entire thread earlier this morning.

Not likely. It doesn't really match the clues well, other than the "screaming kids" one. Plus, Bay Beach is currently closed. And I don't mean just the amusement rides, I mean the park itself is closed.

More likely this is in DePere, in the Voyager park area. It's a match for nearly everything.

Field reports indicate that the parks are swarming with people and the trees don't stand a chance. People have pretty much everything but chain saws out there and are doing some damage. Any cache you have in any parks that border either the east or west side of the Fox River from the Bay to DePere, assume that they are long gone. One got tagged for sure in Ashwaubomay park.

So far, no bomb squad calls though.

Well, anybody that has ever been dismayed to see an area trashed by people looking to find a geocache--which isn't worth anything--would have seen that hanging something in a tree "somewhere in Brown County" worth hundreds (thousands?) of dollars would likely generate some bad behavior.
