I recently upgraded my GSAK and now my Nuvi paperless from piloysnipes is not working. How do I go back to version 7.5.0 and get all this to work again.

I had some problems when I installed the new version too and was tempted to switch back, but I went into the GSAK forums and was able to get some support help...now it's working great. What seems to be the problem?

I'm having the same problem.
I left this message on the GSAK forums
"Ever since downloading the latest version of GSAK (7.5.2.27) my Nuvi Macro is no longer working. When I click on it GSAK just automatically shuts itself down.
I've tried uninstalling everything and re-installing all of the programs required per the instructions on pilotsnipes but the same problem exists. It worked flawlessly prior to this newest version of GSAK.
Is there a way to fix this issue or a place to download an older Version 7?
I love this feature and can't imagine not being able to use my Nuvi anymore as a geocaching assist.
PLEASE HELP!!!! "

Guys, one of the problems with using "user developed" addon is that the "user" is responsible for updating the macro. You need to first try contacting the author of the macro, pilotsnipes. In theory, people are SUPPOSED to delete their macros out of the database if they stop supporting them, but.... Odds are that this guy used some sort of coding "shortcut" when writing this macro which was closed with the new version.

While you are waiting (possibly forever), you might want to try the other Nuvi macro that is available. You can find it at this link.

I'll take a look at the other macro and see if I can hack it.

Well, I downloaded it and ran it. Works as far as I can tell, but I don't have any way to test the quality of the file produced. Try running the macro from the menu to see if the works correctly. If it does, you need to reprogram the macro button.

To be honest, this is NOT a piece of software I would depend on. I'm sure the guy is a nice guy, but since he is choosing not to house his program with the rest of the macro community, so I do wonder what he is up to. This sort of thing runs up all sorts of red flags for me (secret data collection, spyware, etc.)

I tried the other Nuvi Macro (abov) and have the same problem. I run the Macro and GSAK shuts down. When I re-open GSAK I have to "repair" it. I'm trying to figure out if it's my CA Security Suite settings? I don't think so though.

I had a similar problem and what I found in the GSAK forums that solve it for me had to do with the uninstalling/reinstalling of the program. Note that you'll also have to delete all of the GSAK folders (data is not deleted when you uninstall GSAK). When you reinstall GSAK, use a known good backup to restore your data (File>Restore). But try renaming the data folder first - this may allow you to recover all of your databases except the one that was open the last time you used GSAK.

Dave,

Do you hire yourself out?
Kind of like the Geocachers version of Best Buys Geek Squad wink

I feel like I've tried everything.
After loading the macro you suggest above with the same result I can't figure out what the problem could be.
I even tried diabling my Firewall protection. That didn't do it.
I am also working with Clyde (GSAK) as well to try to come up with a solution.
I feel like an idiot Embarassed

I'm watching this discussion closely as I have not upgraded to the new version of GSAK yet. I don't play with it as much as I should so each time I try this MACRO, its learning it all over again. Guess until i see something definate in the solution. I will hold off on upgrading.

After I got the bugs out of the updated version, I still wish I'd have kept the original. It works well now, but I still have issues with downloading caches to my hand-held Lowrance. I can do it, but in a much more complicated procedure than before. So in some respects, the newer version is easier for the Nuvi (once you get the bugs out), but not others. My original problem I had with the Nuvi didn't have to do with the macro but rather with getting an error message that didn't allow the poiloader to do it's job. I'm not sure why but GSAK suggested that my virus protection, or something that arrived atttached on a pocket query, or just plain Vista gremlins may have compromised it. Anyway, uninstalling/reinstalling GSAK correctly solved the problem.

Rather than screwing with your main database, try setting up a database with one or two caches and see if the program runs. My guess is that it will. I found this macro to be verrrrrry sloooooow, so you might be getting timeout issues, operating system issues, etc. Also, when macros work on one system and not another, it is often the case where "special" characters included in cache names or descriptions are causing the problem. (Not special characters like / ~ and ], but characters like £ Ų and ž) Try to make your starting database with very simple caches that aren't likely to cause the problem. Then run it. If it fails on this, it is probably an install issue (firewall, VP, etc.). If it works, it is probably a data issue where the program can't handle ONE cache in your DB. In that case, just keep adding them a few at a time until you locate the bad actor. Then, you get to yell at the macro owner for not supporting international characters (and of course, edit your version of the cache page to eliminate the problem and lock it so it doesn't get changed by new queries.)

Incidentally, I do have version 7.5.1 if anyone wants a copy.
