Cheezehead DOES make a good point! Some of our favorites are Up Nort! And if minimums are required, they are also 'numbers', which can still be manipulated, like getting a large group to seek a new cache, and each individual logging the hide.
But at least someone would be SOLICITING you to FIND their cache, instead of VOTING for it. After the 20 finds, you can then be solicited AGAIN to vote for it.
KVR-HILO is still our favorite to date, with only 8 finds in 2+ years. Word of mouth works, too! |

Just throwing this out there. We already have six regional forums, why not a COTM from each region? Deserving caches from less populated areas of the state will most definitely get nominations and wins. The "popularity" shouldn't be as bad, so a lot more caches won't be shut out, so to speak. Of course I don't think that the popularity factor will ever be able to be completely eliminated. Each region could have their own COTY. Voting could take place, say the first two weeks of January, and then a statewide vote for the Wisconsin COTY during weeks three and four in January with the six regional winners vying for the top spot. And no problem with the new January COTM, as the two years would simply overlap for a month. |

Many that have ended up on the list are most likely COTM "worthy" caches. Take for instance Roter Eulenflug (typing off memory so I apologize if I killed this name) by seldom | seen (nominated last month I believe). Worthy of a COTM. Probably (I dnfed it so I cannot fully form an opinion as of yet). Ever going to win a popularity contest vote? Nope. The numbers aren't there unless one "solicits".
However, the act of nominating a COTM (like the example above) currently gets the cache bookmarked and as such has value. If there is to be a "screening" of nominations we should not deny the nomination being recognized nor should we deny the bookmark addition of a nominated cache.

While many of mine have been nominated, I have yet to receive a COTM win on a cache that was solely of my making. I have long ago reconciled this with the knowledge that the average number of visits on my puzzle caches rarely exceeds 10 (until Marc goes touring) and subsequently that I will likely never get a win. Also, because I have been witness to the behind the scenes shenanigans, I have actually told others who inquired, not to vote for my caches.
Now, having said that, I do appreciate the nominations, because they are well-intentioned - like said nominee "Roter Euleflug". If 30 people HAD done that cache, I suspect that vast majority would have voted for it. But who of that 30 would even be aware that it was nominated? 5, maybe less? Unless by some solicitation via e-mail or phone to get the numbers up.
Many of you have done a few of my caches and a few of you have done many of them. All of you should know that I want you to enjoy the experience and the find, and yes, occasionally the final, and that's the reward I get when I read most of the logs, especially from those who can fathom what I put into my caches and are kind enough and respectful enough to say as much in their logs. As for the rest of you copy paster- touring types... you can go vote for next months COTM! |

Why are there now 3 COTM winners for May? Was there actually a 3-way tie? |
