Lil' Presque Isle --Marquette Michigan area

We made a trip up to an event in Marquette this weekend, and really, all the caching we did up there was great. Even the park and grabs were great, often along the lakeshore or near waterfalls or pretty woodside trails and wetlands.

This one, however, was the Crown Jewel of a great weekend. Truly the perfect caching adventure for the adventurous. We had injuries and everything, yet the injured put this one on the top of our list!

Our son and daughter-in-law live in Marquette. Every time we go up to visit, we enjoy going out cache hunting.

We posted a similar endorsement to Trekin' & Birdin's message about a year back. We fully agree that the Marquette and Ishpemming area is definitely a worthy destination. The hides are mostly creative, unique, and in pretty cool locations.

Yep, definitely the cache of the weekend, and it was promptly added to our Highlights bookmark. This being the cache of the weekend is saying a lot though, between cliffs, waterfalls and ocean-like views around every corner. If you want a milestone you're going to smile about for a long time it comes highly, highly recommended.

The Marquette area is a cacher's wonderland and I'd consider the move if it weren't for even longer winters and horror story snowfall totals (at least for us).

Sorry for the bump, but I'm planning a trip to Marquette for next weekend (July 24/25) for a couple days of caching. If I don't get my 200th find before then, what are some recommended caches worthy of a milestone find?

I can't do Lil' Presque Isle because I don't have the equipment to do that cache. I can still do rough T4 terrains that do not require special equipment.

I had a few T4 caches bookmarked for my 200th find such as the one Zoesbro got for his 1000th.

But if I don't get to those caches by next weekend, then Marquette will be where I get my 200th. I want it to be worthwhile and be worth remembering because I won't be back in Marquette for a long time.

You do not need any equipment for this one. Just a pair of shoes that you can wear in the water. You can walk to the island by stepping on sandstones all along the way. If there are no waves the water will stay below your waste. It is well worth it. Many locals cross over to the little island to hang out and it is likely you will see some crossing when you go. The cache is on the other end not where the locals hang out.

The breakwater caches are pretty memorable too.

Marquette is one of our favorite places to cache. We were up there earlier this week and would recommend any in Presque Isle Park. If you have specific questions just let us know.

Thanks for sharing. I live vicariously sometimes through other cacher's logs...I especially liked the photos, not only your's but everyone else's too. I can only hope that someday...[ Very Happy

Thanks, TE. We'll see how that goes when I get up there.

I'm looking forward to getting my Michigan counts up. My find counts for Wisconsin almost outnumber that of Michigan's at about a 3 to 1 ratio and I live in Michigan. As of this post, I have 138 finds in Wisconsin, but just 46 in Michigan.

We live in WI but only need to go 20 miles north or a little more than that East and we are in MI.

How long is the walk in the water from shore to shore?

400-500 feet according to Mr. TE. He said it may even be less. WE went when it was really windy and the waves were high! Made it even more fun!!! The views from the island are spectacular too.

For the most part, yes. I don't know anyone up there. I do know a muggle friend that may come along, but will wait for me at the shoreline while I go to the island.
