Why are their times that when I post to the forums it will double post?
I only hit submit...once. I see it happening to other people as well. Does
any one know why? OR how to prevent it. Just curious. Confused

Sometimes the post doesn't want to upload for me. Resist the urge to click "submit" again. If it seems stuck, go to some other spot, and it usually shows up as submitted.

I've had some "phantom" double posts, though. No reason why, but it's a great way to pad your post count! wink

When I've double posted it's always been because I hit back on the browser after posting and it sent the message again. At least I think that's what did it. I'll try it right now...

Nope, I would have had to have hit submit again.

Ours will post a second time anytime we use the back button after a post.

We stop that from happening by clicking on whatever forum we're on. Now it would be Help then it won't post twice.

But we do forget every once in a while hence the double post

I suspect this is caused by a particular browser. Using Firefox, I have never gotten a double post (and I hit back a lot.) I believe this behavior is specific to IE 6. If you are using IE 6, try upgrading to the current version.

I have had it primarily with FF 3.5.? on windows and occasionally safari on a mac.

Maybe you are hitting back and then forward. That would do it on any browser.

If you do this (back then forward) in some browsers you get a warning message saying that you are about to "repost form data" or something similar. If you see such a message, STOP because it means you are going to redo some action (in this case, send your post again creating a double post).

We could increase the minimum time between posts, which right now is 30 seconds. If this were a minute, then you'd be more likely to get an error message saying that you posted another time too quickly instead of creating a double post. Though thread stealers going for a FTP may get annoyed by this restriction...
