Snow shoe in until we're close to GZ, and if the tails are a problem, remove them and hoof it to GZ. Pick up the shoes on the way back.

GGC had a Toyota something. You can read their log, Splash.

This shouldn't be compared to the SSSS caches. The DNR does control the water level and it should be low to non-existant at this time of year.

There was a funeral there this morning. If there is a church function on Saturday, alternate parking will be in Eldorado near the "Scribners Mill 2" cache. We can car pool the half mile, so there are less vehicles in the church lot.

Meet at 1:00 PM. Any late comers can follow the postholes!

Hello! I went out today and yes, there was a funeral. I felt badly when I got back the lot was packed. But folks were still arriving so someone took my spot as soon as I vacated. I want to Thank You for posting the info about the road - I'm glad I didn't attempt it. Most of it is fine but there are spots...
It would have been much nicer to meet you all but today was my day.
I've never been anywhere like that before- Wow! You are wise to go as a group - I see that rather clearly now. Anyway it was waaaaay fun and exhausting. I doubt I found the best path out or back but I did it and it was fun! Hope you all have fun too!

I did this one in early Dec before it was frozen. I followed Jim's advice and found a deer trail and followed it to the island. Half way through the deer track started to veer away from the island and I made the mistake of trying to bushwack through the cattails. I made it about 50 yds and through chest high cattails and was exhausted. I think snowshoes would be more of a hinderance in the cattails. The yellow pin is where I started. It may not be the ideal spot but there were several trails running to the island. I was able to park down in the parking lot and made it from car to island and back in 35 min.

I'd love to join you guys if not to just meet and add some morale support but we will be in the Dells that weekend. Good Luck.

That's a great picture! You can see the island in a sea of cattails!

We will start from the small "teardrop" , heading straight east on the water channel, veering NE toward the tack, then follow the treeline east. We will continue east on that itty-bitty line that goes just south of the island. There are 10 foot tall hunting signs that lead the way through. This should leave about 200 feet of finding a deer trail to the island.

Roosevelt and I haven't been out since the 1st when we conquered the SSSS's with CJ. You can count in the two of us and Flat Jack (who will ride in my backpack).

Hey, that might be fun after all. About 30 cachers in 10 cars going from block to block and everyone getting out to closely inspect telephone poles.

The terrain on this cache was reduced to a 4 sometime between yesterday AM when I set out and PM when I posted my log! I've only done a handful of terrain 4 or harder but this was by far the hardest. Bummer. I'm still glad I went but that just doesn't seem right. Has this happened to any of you?

On 2nd thought - maybe that was my own error? I still have that same question though. Can a cache owner change the ratings after a cache has been published?

Yep - they can change the difficulty and terrain post-publish. Causes issues with all those "fizzy challenge" ALR's out there that require certain difficulty/terrain caches.

Sometimes a nicely worded note to the cache page expressing disappointment will get it moved back. Very Happy

Also some owners seem to think there is merit to continually changing D/T ratings as the seasons and conditions change (i.e., "I'm changing this from a 5 to a 2 because you can walk across the ice now), but this makes no sense because the ratings are not fixed in time to your find date (which gets to cheetos fizzy challenge conundrum)
