Yeah, I know, check the cache page.

But when you (as a cache owner) get an inbox notification of a new log on one of your caches, is there a way to indicate that the log contains a photo?

When you get 50-100 logs in your inbox some days, it's kind of impractical to go to every one to see if someone has uploaded a photo. Maybe I'm missing something.

There isn't, and if you think about the process of uploading a picture, you will see why. When you post a log, you have to post the log before you are given the option of uploading the photo. The email process starts before the photo is uploaded. Now, they could obviously rig it to send an email when a photo is uploaded separately, but it doesn't work that way today. Maybe you could submit a suggestion to Groundspeak?

Fyi - their process for suggestions is to post a new thread on their website forum. Be prepared for the vocal posters on that forum to argue the finer points and "merit" of your suggestion. From what I've seen the suggestions get read so don't worry too much about the discussion that ensues. If Groundspeak likes the suggestion they may implement.

It sounds like a really good suggestion to me. Sometimes pictures posted can be great ones that an owner wants to see. Other times, they can be spoilers.

I've seen a suggestion thread on allowing an owner to remove a specific picture and not the entire log that contains the picture but haven't seen one regarding getting notified of a picture being posted.

And an FYI for others reading my prior post, I believe only premium members have access to the website forum on geocaching.com.

I hadn't thought about the fact that a picture posting is essentially a "log edit" function. I guess that makes sense.

Step A is to spend some time researching the groundspeak forums to see if this has been brought up before...I'll put it on the to-do list.

Another thing that could be wrapped into this type of notification is when cachers change logs, either making substantial text changes or changing logs. For instance, I know some cachers like to go back and change DNF logs to found it when they do find the cache. So I threw it out there.

Regarding the photos, probably the best way to do it for now is to occasionally run a PQ of owned caches and click the gallery link under the search preview.

I've had notes turned into found it logs or dnf logs as well. That would be nice to receive notification on.

Or better yet, require a new log wink

I was going to suggest a "My Hides" PQ. That seems to be the best way currently to see pics posted, but there isn't any notification. I also agree that there should be notification of log edits, but since it's been brought up so many times on the GC forums, I doubt that a new thread would help much.

If you are new to the GC forums, be forewarned that it is full of nay-sayers and contrarians who only post to make noise. The GC forums are very tame compared to some, but compared to the WGA forums, it's a snakepit.

Well then I'm in all kinds of trouble for bringing it up again. Laughing

Honestly I never can find anything useful in those forums. The search function tends to give me "no results" on however I stucture my queries. Might just be me...

I used to spend a lot (too much) time the the Groundspeak forums, but it gets old fast.
I hope you don't get the "This topic has been discussed many times. Use the search function" responses that probably will follow your dumb, noobie queston. Smile

Agreed on the search function, but I usually get thousands of unrelated threads.

"The search you performed returned no results because you put in a search term with fewer than 5 letters or because you are clearly not worth wasting my time on."

I do know a "My Hides" PQ has been discussed more than once on there.

Yep, it's a jungle out there. That's typically why I refrain from posting..

Man, I asked this exact same question last June. Found that thread when I was looking for the answer to something else. I'm getting senile. But this time I wrote down the answer...it's here on my desk somewhere...
