This was a item that I was going to bring to the board if I would have made it on this year. I will run again next year if I get a nomination, but in my opinion this idea is too good to wait for a year or more.

Our neighboring state to the North prints stickers like this and literally gives them away to its members (when you buy something from the webstore, they send you five of them.) They are also handed out at MiGO sponsored events where the store travels to.

http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/FueZzS5S5-20V5ENdfhHfQ?feat=directlink

Making a few changes to the original here is a idea for Wisconsin.

http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/vBtvMVMbhU9qIrPRTVumbw?feat=directlink

Now do not take these prices as actual, I ran the idea thru a website to get a approximate price.

mavericklabel.com online quote for these would be this
500 = $1,010.36 750 = $772.81 1000 = $719.37 1500 = $897.87 2500 = $1,219.50

Shipping would be added to this (approx $25 for 2500)

There are other pricing options, that could be worked out if this idea happens.

The wording could be changed or reworded as needed

Any idea or thoughts could be posted here, also I did not contact MiGO to see if we could dupicate their idea, but I will contact the BOD over there if needed.

Barry

edited could not get the pictures to post, so added links, if someone can get them to post in the forum that would be great

Barry, just looking at the difference in prices from 500 to 750 pieces.
from about $2/each to $1/each for another 250 pieces?

looked at the site too, just wondering what you inputed to get your quote.
I like the idea, just need to work the numbers a bit.

the size was 4x6

Weatherproof White stock

2 spot colors GREEN and Black (We can make anything white by not putting any ink in that area

I used to work in the printing industry, the setup fee is the largest part of printing, running more while it is set up actually brings the per piece price down the more you run. That is why 750 and 1000 are actually cheaper than 500 Its not a typo

We could also look for a company that could print these on sheet stock instead of roll stock,

Look up screen printing. flat stock labels.

Jaymar Screen Printers in Depere, might be able to do something like this

So the MIGO sticker size is 4"x6"? Looks like they use green stock and print only in one color (black). The WGA logo could be modified to be monochrome but it wouldn't look as pretty.

I am in the process of getting printing quotes for some other WGA items and could see what something like this would cost. My guess is the cheapest would be to have these printed as bumper stickers (3"x11") and then have people chop them in half to get a 3"x5.5" sticker.

Having done the maps for the local snowmobile club, the setup is the biggest deal. We went from printing 8,000 maps for 3 years to 2,000 maps for 1 one year and our cost went up, but the print shop said that if we limit our changes then our cost won't be so great on the next year.
Bumperstickers? hmm... through it on magnetic stripping and tuck the logsheet behind it in a baggie and call it the Obvious cache!

The smaller it is, the more cache sizes it will fit on, but then the Bomb squad has to work harder to see it too.

I have the migo sticker in front of me and it is definitely green and black printed on white stock

Worked in the silkscreen industry printing flat stock labels and that is a norm. white stock printed with 2 colors would be cheaper than using a green stock with one color.

I thought there was a set up fee included, just looked odd.
thanks for the clarification.

Gave a copy of the Migo one to Auntie Nae, so she could bring it to the meeting next Sunday. This way everyone can get all touchy feely with it.

Remember the larger the sticker that is made, the larger size of cache container you need to put it on.

the concept is a great idea ... like to throw an odd idea into the mix ...

What if you produce one physical sticker that has two parts to it ... a regular size and a micro ... the end user cuts them apart and uses which ever part they want, or for that matter has a sticker for both a regular and a micro. Thus you have 2 sticker sizes for only 1 setup charge.

So made up dimensions for example purposes only:
You buy sticker stock that is 6" tall x 3" wide.
You make one setup and press run onto that stock.
You have a dotted line that says "cut here" at 4.5"
So you have a full size cache sticker that is 4.5" x 3"
AND a micro size cache sticker that is 1.5" x 3"

I suppose if you want it extra noticable on bigger caches ..
you could leave thing as one piece (6 x 3) and have a
bit of duplicate information on your cache for the bomb robot to see.

Might want to change the text a bit to say "placed by a member of the Wisconsin Geocaching Association" as that would deflect some possible liability which could (if the tides and stars lined up just wrong) occur.

Obviously we do not mean that the WGA actually placed the caches or are responsible for them so such a statement would be more accurate as well.

I really like the idea though and we could sell them (or give them) at WGA events as well...I'd buy several. I do also like the idea to have two sizes on each sticker which could be cut.

one slight issue ...
if I look at the picture example, I see where there could be a name or GC of a cache listed, and reference to the WGA website. If I had no clue what geocaching was and didn't poke around on the WGA website, how would I come to the conclusion (quickly) that I should go to www.geocaching.com to look up the cache that I just found by mistake.

a simple solution ...
make the "Geocaching.com Search" box more obvious in the left margin of the WGA website and add some sort of text that says "enter the GC##### code here, to look up a geocache".

Excellent ideas energy saver....my first thought was in line with your comment about knowing where to find out about that specific cache. Your solution would work fine, of making a place to look up a cache right on the WGA website.

Also, I would buy these for all of my caches in the future if I could get both sizes on one sticker, I like the two for one idea.
